We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

Effect of Reinforcement Type on the Tension Stiffening Model of Ultra-High Performance Concrete (UHPC) [PDF]
Ultra-high performance concrete (UHPC) is a developing concrete and today is increasing to interest using it in structures due to its advantages such as high-compressive strength, modulus of elasticity, highly durability and low-permeability.

We identified a systemic, progressive loss of protein S‐glutathionylation—detected by nonreducing western blotting—alongside dysregulation of glutathione‐cycle enzymes in both neuronal and peripheral tissues of Taiwanese SMA mice. These alterations were partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotide therapy, revealing persistent redox imbalance as ...

Self-supporting carbon nanotube (CNT) Bucky-Papers have unique structural and surface properties which can be utilised in many applications. In this work we characterised pure self-supporting CNT membranes, where CNTs were held together only by Van der ...

Biomolecular condensates formed by fused in sarcoma (FUS) are dissolved by high ATP concentrations yet persist in cells. Using a reconstituted system, we demonstrate that valosin‐containing protein (VCP), an AAA+ ATPase, counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its D2 ATPase activity.

Estimating the sensitivity of mechanosensitive ion channels to membrane strain and tension
Bone adapts to its environment by a process in which osteoblasts and osteocytes sense applied mechanical strain. One possible pathway for the detection of strain involves mechanosensitive channels and we sought to determine their sensitivity to membrane ...

Carbon nanotube based composite membranes for water desalination by membrane distillation [PDF]
New technologies are required to improve desalination efficiency and increase water treatment capacities. One promising low energy technique to produce potable water from either sea or sewage water is membrane distillation (MD).

Hyperosmotic stress induces PARP1‐mediated HPF1‐dependent mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation
Sorbitol‐induced hyperosmotic stress rapidly induces reversible mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation (MARylation) on PARP1 without the signs of genotoxic signaling. We show that PARP1 autoMARylation is HPF1 dependent and forms hydroxylamine‐resistant O‐glycosidic linkages.

Development of a direct simple shear apparatus for peat
This paper discusses the design and development of a new direct simple shear (DSS) apparatus for testing peat soils. The apparatus has been designed to test peat at low effective stresses, representative of its in-situ condition and allow the ...
