Optimization by Direct Search in Matrix Computations [PDF]
Many questions about algorithms in matrix computations can be expressed in terms of the maximum value of some easily computable function \(f\). For many algorithms it is known that direct search is capable of revealing instability or proof performance.

We identify USP29 as the only DUB mirroring CA9 expression, a marker of hypoxia and HIF pathway activation associated with PCA aggressiveness. USP29 stabilizes HIF‐1α and HIF‐2α via a noncanonical mechanism that is independent of PHD/pVHL activity yet relies on proteasomal regulation, establishing USP29 as a previously unrecognized regulator of hypoxic

Search Intensity, Directed Search And The Wage Distribution [PDF]
We propose a search equilibrium model in which homogenous rms post wages along with a vacancy to attract job-seekers, while homogenous unemployed workers invest in costly job-seeking.

Adaptive Lévy processes and area-restricted search in human foraging [PDF]
A considerable amount of research has claimed that animals’ foraging behaviors display movement lengths with power-law distributed tails, characteristic of Lévy flights and Lévy walks.

The Local Galactic Transient Survey Applied to an Optical Search for Directed Intelligence
We discuss our transient search for directed energy systems in local galaxies, with calculations indicating the ability of modest searches to detect optical Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence sources in the closest galaxies. Our analysis follows P.

Search on a Grid: Directed Consumer Search With Correlated Products
The consumer search literature mostly considers independently distributed products. In contrast, I study a model of directed search with infinitely many products whose valuations are correlated through shared attributes. I propose a tractable, systematic, history-dependent scoring system based on nests of correlated products that leverages the ...

Finding novel vulnerabilities of hypomorphic BRCA1 alleles
Synthetic lethality screens performed to identify novel vulnerabilities often model complete gene loss, thereby overlooking patient‐derived hypomorphic mutations. In this study, we have performed genome‐wide CRISPR screens on BRCA1 hypomorphic mutations, showing BRCA1I26A behaves like wild‐type, while BRCA1R1699Q mimics deficiency. Furthermore, we have

'Residual' Wage Disparity in Directed Search Equilibrium [PDF]
We examine how much of the observed wage dispersion among similar workers can be explained as a consequence of a lack of coordination among employers.

Directed plateau search for MAX-k-SAT
Local search algorithms for MAX-k-SAT must often explore large regions of mutually connected equal moves, or plateaus, typically by taking random walks through the region.

Many patients with urothelial cancer do not benefit from treatment with pembrolizumab, while at risk of severe side effects. Changes in the levels of circulating tumor DNA early during treatment, measured by a simple and affordable assay that can be easily implemented in the clinic, can be used as a prognostic tool to identify these patients.
