Advanced Design for Weakly Coupled Resonators by Automatic Active Optimization
An Automatic Active Optimization (AAO) strategy integrates machine learning predictors and genetic algorithms in a closedâloop workflow. By iteratively expanding its dataset with new discoveries, AAO overcomes the limits of conventional methods. This approach finds superior microstructural designs beyond the initial sample space. We demonstrate this on

Mismatched directional couplers
Optics Letters, 1990Various twin-core couplers composed of mismatched optical fibers are capable of complete power transfer over lengths only moderately longer than their matched analogs. Examples include tapered and piecewise-continuous mismatched couplers. These linear couplers also provide insight into the mechanism of nonlinear coupling because nonlinearity induces ...

A novel directional X-band coupler based on the nonreciprocal scattering properties of a ferrite cylinder is described. Experimental data for coupling and directivity are given as a function of various parameters. Approximate theoretical expressions for coupling and directivity are derived and discussed.
