A Depolarizing Leak in Sodium Bicarbonate Cotransporter NBCe1 Causes Brain Edema

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objectives SLC4A4 encodes electrogenic sodium bicarbonate cotransporter NBCe1, prominently expressed in kidney and brain. Recessive loss‐of‐function variants in SLC4A4 cause proximal renal tubular acidosis, no brain edema. In the brain, NBCe1 is expressed by astrocytes, where it regulates pH and mediates astrocyte volume changes.

Optimization of Trajectory Design for Highly Deviated Directional Wells

open access: yesIOP Conference Series: Materials Science and Engineering, 2020
Abstract Highly deviated directional well technology has the advantages of drilling through longer shale gas reservoir section, detecting and controlling gas bearing area in a large range, and greatly improving gas production of single well. Based on the preliminary work of vertical well and pre exploration well, through the optimization

Comparative analysis of estimators for wind direction standard deviation

open access: yesMeteorological Applications, 2006
AbstractWind direction is a circular variable. This makes the algorithms used to find its standard deviation different from that of the linear variables. In particular, the requirement for storing all the data points before the standard deviation can be computed limits the storage capacity and puts great strain on remote data acquisition systems ...

Diffusion‐Weighted Imaging for the Evaluation of the Sacroiliac Joint in Pediatric Patients

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, EarlyView.
Objective Maturational signal in the sacroiliac joint (SIJ) of skeletally immature youth is often misinterpreted as inflammation. Diagnostic tools that improve specificity are greatly needed. Apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) values from diffusion‐weighted imaging (DWI), when used with standard imaging, may enhance diagnostic accuracy.

Evaluation of the Potential of Laser Shock Peening Compared with Cold Expansion for Improving Fatigue Resistance of Riveted Lap Joints of Aerospace Grade 7175 Al Alloy

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study investigates laser shock peening for enhancing fatigue performance of riveted aerospace aluminum joints. A comparative approach with cold expansion combines fatigue testing and synchrotron X‐ray methods. Integrating mechanical testing with residual stress and strain characterization provides insights into how different treatments affect the ...

Deviation from weak Banach–Saks property for countable direct sums

open access: yesAnnales UMCS, Mathematica, 2014
AbstractWe introduce a seminorm for bounded linear operators between Banach spaces that shows the deviation from the weak Banach-Saks property.

Harnessing Fungal Biowelding for Constructing Mycelium‐Engineered Materials

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Mycelium‐bound composites (MBCs) offer low‐carbon alternatives for construction, yet interfacial bonding remains a critical challenge. This review examines fungal biowelding as a biocompatible adhesive, elucidating mycelium‐mediated interfacial mechanisms and their role in material assembly. Strategies to optimize biowelding are discussed, highlighting

Facial Expression Recognition Using Salient Features and Convolutional Neural Network

open access: yesIEEE Access, 2017
A depth camera-based novel method is proposed here for efficient facial expression recognition. For each pixel in a depth image, eight local directional strengths are obtained and ranked.

Three-dimensional track reconstruction for directional Dark Matter detection

open access: yes, 2012
Directional detection of Dark Matter is a promising search strategy. However, to perform such detection, a given set of parameters has to be retrieved from the recoiling tracks : direction, sense and position in the detector volume.

PBF‐LB/M of Ti‐6Al‐4V: High‐Pressure Solution Treatment and Aging for Applications in a Sustainable Aerospace

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Additive manufacturing (AM) allows great geometric freedom for lightweight components. As parts are progressively optimized exploiting potentials in AM leading in smaller material cross sections, high pressure solution treating and aging (STA) treatments show an enormous potential for strongly improving material properties.
