Optimum coordination of directional overcurrent relays in presence of distributed generation

2015 International Conference on Electrical, Electronics, Signals, Communication and Optimization (EESCO), 2015
Distributed generation (DG) is commonly used to supply the local loads. The penetration of distributed generation leads to violate the relay coordination in distribution network. This paper presents the implementation of a fault current limiter (FCL) to limit the fault current contribution from DG, and thus restore the protection coordination.

A JAYA Algorithm Based User-Defined Directional Overcurrent Relay Coordination Approach for Microgrid

Students Conference on Engineering and Systems
The system architecture and control approach of the microgrid determine the fault characteristics of an islanded microgrid, which differ from those operating in grid-connected mode and are crucial in understanding the adaptation problems with the ...

Optimal coordination of directional overcurrent relays

2018
The coordination between DOCRs is nonlinear and highly constrained optimization problem in which two settings, namely, TDS and PCS of each relay are considered as decision variables. The main objective is to minimize the sum of OTs of all the primary relays, which are expected to operate in order to clear the faults of their corresponding zones.

Adaptive Protection Coordination Scheme Using Numerical Directional Overcurrent Relays

IEEE Transactions on Industrial Informatics, 2019
Dynamically changing distribution system operating conditions compromises the coordination of the existing protection schemes. This paper proposes an online adaptive protection coordination scheme by utilizing numerical directional overcurrent relays (DOCRs) and commercial A Mathematical Programming Language (AMPL) based Interior Point OPTimization ...

Coordination of directional overcurrent relay timing using linear programming

IEEE Transactions on Power Delivery, 1996
A successive linear programming methodology is presented to treat more effectively those applications where a local structure change is performed to a power system already in operation, and where the modification of the settings of already existent relays is not desirable. The dimension of the optimization problems to be solved is substantially reduced,

Application of Random Search Technique in Directional Overcurrent Relay Coordination

International Journal of Emerging Electric Power Systems, 2006
Recently, using a non-linear programming method authors have demonstrated that based on certain criteria if some non-significant selectivity constraints are relaxed, all remaining constraints happen to be feasible but the solution of coordination problem is not possible with the conventional objective function as optimization procedure leaves the ...

A Modified Particle Swarm Optimizer for the Coordination of Directional Overcurrent Relays

IEEE Transactions on Power Delivery, 2007
The coordination of directional overcurrent relays (DOCR) is treated in this paper using particle swarm optimization (PSO), a recently proposed optimizer that utilizes the swarm behavior in searching for an optimum. PSO gained a lot of interest for its simplicity, robustness, and easy implementation.

Optimized Coordination of Directional Overcurrent Relays Using Genetic Algorithm

2018 IEEE International Conference on Environment and Electrical Engineering and 2018 IEEE Industrial and Commercial Power Systems Europe (EEEIC / I&CPS Europe), 2018
The use of directional current protection is very common in transmission lines and distribution lines with distributed generation, and it plays a key role in ensuring that the power supply is safely and reliably, because improper performance of the protection causes interruptions and generate various disruptions to society.

Coordination of directional overcurrent relays using artificial bee colony

22nd International Conference and Exhibition on Electricity Distribution (CIRED 2013), 2013
This paper proposes to solve the coordination of directional overcurrent relays problem (DOCK) using Artificial Bee Colony optimization (ABC) which is robust and easily implemented. Three case studies were evaluated and implemented on looped 3-bus, 6-bus, and 8-bus systems. The obtained results from the proposed ABC algorithm is compared to those using
