A Novel Convexified Linear Program for Coordination of Directional Overcurrent Relays
IEEE Transactions on Power Delivery, 2019A novel convexified linear program for optimal directional overcurrent relay (DOCR) coordination problem (CP) is proposed in this letter. The DOCR CP is a highly constrained nonlinear nonconvex problem which was solved using various traditional and heuristic optimization techniques in the past.

Optimal coordination of directional overcurrent relays: A genetic algorithm approach
2012 IEEE Students' Conference on Electrical, Electronics and Computer Science, 2012In this paper, the optimization of coordination of directional overcurrent relays in an interconnected power system is presented. The objective of protective relay coordination is to achieve selectivity without sacrificing sensitivity and quick fault clearance time.

Optimization Techniques for Overcurrent Relay Coordination – A Review
2025 IEEE Connecting the Unconnected Europe, Middle East, and Africa Regional Summit (CTUS-EMEA)Electrical power systems utilize overcurrent relay protection to protect the circuits from excessive currents coming through. When coordinating overcurrent relays, determining the optimal time for primary and backup relays to activate is one of the ...

An application of rule based system to the coordination of directional overcurrent relays
6th International Conference on Developments in Power Systems Protection, 1997In this paper, we apply a rule based system, in which production rules are utilized to solve a domain problem, to the relay settings and its time delay coordination for directional overcurrent relays. In order to proceed them efficiently, we first propose a simple algorithm for finding the order of relay settings by using heuristic rules which are ...

Coordination of directional overcurrent relays in transmission systems-a subsystem approach
IEEE Transactions on Power Delivery, 1990A new concept, called subsystem coordination, for efficiently computing proper settings of directional overcurrent relays on transmission systems in response to changes in system topology and load levels is proposed. An automatic window identification and coordination algorithm has been developed, implemented, and tested on a realistic transmission ...

Optimal Overcurrent Relay Coordination in Electrical Power Systems
2025 2nd International conference on Advances in Electronics, Control and Communication Systems (ICAECCS)Short circuits arise unexpectedly in power systems, generating fault currents that compromise both equipment integrity and overall stability. Directional overcurrent relays (DOCRs) are therefore essential for fault protection, requiring accurate ...
