A novel problem formulation for directional overcurrent relay coordination

2004 Large Engineering Systems Conference on Power Engineering (IEEE Cat. No.04EX819), 2004
In general, directional overcurrent relays allow for continuous time dial settings but discrete pickup current settings. All previous work formulates the coordination problem either as a linear programming problem or as a nonlinear programming problem.

Optimal coordination of directional overcurrent relays using NSGA-II

Electric Power Systems Research, 2015
Abstract This paper presents a new method for coordination of directional overcurrent relays to reduce the discrimination time of the primary and backup relays, by using nondominated sorting genetic algorithm-II (NSGA-II). In order to achieve a reliable protective system, it is necessary to find a solution to avoid having large discrimination times ...

Coordination of Directional Overcurrent Relays Using Seeker Algorithm

IEEE Transactions on Power Delivery, 2012
Coordination of directional overcurrent relays in a multiloop subtransmission or distribution network is formulated as an optimization problem. In this paper, the coordination of directional overcurrent relays is formulated as a mixed-integer nonlinear programming problem and is then solved by a new seeker optimization technique.

Coordination of directional overcurrent relays using artificial bee colony

22nd International Conference and Exhibition on Electricity Distribution (CIRED 2013), 2013
This paper proposes to solve the coordination of directional overcurrent relays problem (DOCK) using Artificial Bee Colony optimization (ABC) which is robust and easily implemented. Three case studies were evaluated and implemented on looped 3-bus, 6-bus, and 8-bus systems. The obtained results from the proposed ABC algorithm is compared to those using

Optimized Coordination of Directional Overcurrent Relays Using Genetic Algorithm

2018 IEEE International Conference on Environment and Electrical Engineering and 2018 IEEE Industrial and Commercial Power Systems Europe (EEEIC / I&CPS Europe), 2018
The use of directional current protection is very common in transmission lines and distribution lines with distributed generation, and it plays a key role in ensuring that the power supply is safely and reliably, because improper performance of the protection causes interruptions and generate various disruptions to society.

Adaptive Protection Coordination Scheme Using Numerical Directional Overcurrent Relays

IEEE Transactions on Industrial Informatics, 2019
Dynamically changing distribution system operating conditions compromises the coordination of the existing protection schemes. This paper proposes an online adaptive protection coordination scheme by utilizing numerical directional overcurrent relays (DOCRs) and commercial A Mathematical Programming Language (AMPL) based Interior Point OPTimization ...

Protection of Microgrid Using Coordinated Directional Overcurrent and Undervoltage Relay

2021 International Conference on Sustainable Energy and Future Electric Transportation (SEFET), 2021
The power system protection is the most vital concern to be addressed with the proliferation of DG. Integration of DG changes the direction of power flow and level of fault current that makes protection of microgrid very challenging. DG integrated through power electronics (PE) converters can decrease or increase fault current level, based upon the ...

The evolutionary algorithm EPSO to coordinate directional overcurrent relays

10th IET International Conference on Developments in Power System Protection (DPSP 2010). Managing the Change, 2010
The goal of this paper is to coordinate directional overcurrent relays using the Evolutionary Particle Swarm Optimization (EPSO) Algorithm. EPSO Algorithm has gained a lot of interest for its simplicity, robustness and easy implementation. Coordinate directional overcurrent relays on a meshed network deals with a large volume of data, with many ...

Optimal Coordination of Directional Overcurrent Relays Using NM-PSO Technique

2012 International Symposium on Computer, Consumer and Control, 2012
Coordination optimization of directional over current relays (DOCRs) is an important part of an efficient distribution system. This optimization problem involves obtaining the time dial setting (TDS) and pickup current (Ip) values of each DOCR. The optimal results should have the shortest primary relay operating time for all fault lines.

Optimal coordination of directional overcurrent relays

2018
The coordination between DOCRs is nonlinear and highly constrained optimization problem in which two settings, namely, TDS and PCS of each relay are considered as decision variables. The main objective is to minimize the sum of OTs of all the primary relays, which are expected to operate in order to clear the faults of their corresponding zones.
