Sustainable Electrochemical Synthesis of High‐Quality MXenes: Mechanistic Insights, Applications, Challenges, and Technological Prospects

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Electrochemical etching provides an eco‐friendly alternative to hazardous HF methods for MXene production. This approach facilitates the selective isolation of the A‐layer from MAX phases with tunable surface terminations. Controlling voltage, electrolytes, temperature, and duration enables the optimal structural integrity. Nevertheless, existing scale

Self‐Seeded Nucleation of PET in a Benign Solvent Yields a High Modulus Aerogel With Ultra‐Low Thermal Conductivity

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
A new benign solvent (1,3‐diphenylacetone) enables a simple, safe, and sustainable dissolution and gelation method to convert waste PET into low density, monolithic aerogels with high mechanical strength (E = 20 MPa) and remarkably low thermal conductivity (k = 21.9 to 28.9 mW/m·K).

Opportunity windows accelerate action and expand options for climate adaptation in Europe

open access: yesCommunications Earth & Environment
Climate adaptation must be intensified globally to keep up with increasing climate change impacts. To date, adaptation is mostly driven by climate risks that need to be reduced and little by opportunities. We identify opportunity windows -i.e. favourable

Managing risk to reduce disasters risk [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Engineering Management and Competitiveness, 2013
Experiences in the region show that disasters obtai n protracted and long-lasting characteristics, and from lessons learned so far it is necessary to find the direction for their outgoing or eliminatio n. Therefore, the author presents an inner view to ris k assessment as an integral part of decision making process in disasters and its implementation ...
