Configurational entropy and diffusion in a hard disc fluid

The Journal of Chemical Physics, 2001
A fluid mixture of hard discs is made glassy in a molecular dynamics experiment by permanently constraining each disc center to stay within a cage of three near neighbors. The constraints can be applied at any density and they cause a thermodynamic glass transition where the compressibility, heat capacity, and entropy decrease.

The relationship of disc position to zone-of-inhibition size in the disc-agar diffusion test.

Methods and findings in experimental and clinical pharmacology, 1983
One hundred sixteen clinical isolates of Enterobacter sp., Escherichia coli, Klebsiella sp., Proteus mirabilis, Staphylococcus aureus and S. epidermidis were tested against cefoperazone, cefoxitin, cefamandole and piperacillin by disc-agar diffusion. Zones-of-inhibition of discs dropped near the center of the plate were compared with those dropped near

The effect of posture on diffusion into lumbar intervertebral discs.

Journal of anatomy, 1988
The diffusion of small solutes into the intervertebral discs of cadaveric lumbar motion segments was measured using a radioactive tracer technique. The motion segments were wedged and loaded to simulate erect posture and flexed sitting postures. The results show that erect posture favours diffusion into the anterior half of the disc compared to the ...
