Structure–Function Decoupling of the Sensorimotor and Default Mode Networks in Black Americans With MS

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background and Objectives Multiple sclerosis (MS) exhibits racially disparate rates of disease progression. Black people with MS (B‐PwMS) experience a more severe disease course than non‐Hispanic White people with MS (NHW‐PwMS). Here we investigated structural and functional connectivity as well as structure–function decoupling in the ...

A Depolarizing Leak in Sodium Bicarbonate Cotransporter NBCe1 Causes Brain Edema

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objectives SLC4A4 encodes electrogenic sodium bicarbonate cotransporter NBCe1, prominently expressed in kidney and brain. Recessive loss‐of‐function variants in SLC4A4 cause proximal renal tubular acidosis, no brain edema. In the brain, NBCe1 is expressed by astrocytes, where it regulates pH and mediates astrocyte volume changes.

Multiple Sclerosis Relapse Activity After Ozanimod Discontinuation in DAYBREAK Trial Participants

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
Multiple Sclerosis Relapse Activity After Ozanimod Discontinuation in DAYBREAK Trial Participants. ABSTRACT Objective Return of disease activity is expected when patients discontinue disease‐modifying therapy (DMT) for multiple sclerosis (MS). Some MS DMTs are associated with higher‐than‐expected disease activity (rebound) after discontinuation.

Clinical outcomes of the “resect and discard” strategy using magnifying narrow-band imaging for small (< 10 mm) colorectal polyps

open access: yesEndoscopy International Open, 2018
Background and study aim The “resect and discard” strategy is a new paradigm for the management of small colorectal polyps that reduces the cost and effort related to pathological diagnosis after polypectomy. This retrospective study aimed to clarify the

Onasemnogene Abeparvovec in Patients With SMA: Interim Results of the RESTORE Registry in Japan

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective There are limited real‐world data regarding the safety and effectiveness of onasemnogene abeparvovec (OA; Zolgensma) infusion, a one‐time gene replacement therapy, for Japanese patients with spinal muscular atrophy (SMA). We aimed to improve understanding of the real‐world outcomes for OA in Japan.

Study of “Discard Rate” of Whole Human Blood: Useful Blood Center Quality Indicator

open access: yesJournal of the Scientific Society, 2018
Background: Blood is a valuable, life-saving material which should not be discarded or wasted to have the required blood supply to the patients. Aims and Objectives: The aim of the present study is to find out the major causes of blood discard from the ...

Integrating Time‐Adjusted Imaging Instability Into Functional Outcome Prediction After Intracerebral Hemorrhage: Development and Validation of the HAGIV Score

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Early risk stratification may support clinical decision‐making in spontaneous intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH). We aimed to develop and internally validate HAGIV, a score integrating frequency of imaging markers (FIM), a time‐adjusted non‐contrast computed tomography (CT) metric of hematoma expansion, with established predictors for 90‐

Shark discards in selective and mixed-species pelagic longline fisheries.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2020
The conservation status of several pelagic shark species is considered vulnerable with declining populations, yet data on shark fishing mortality remain limited for large ocean regions. Pelagic sharks are increasingly retained by mixed-species fisheries,

Making a repair-discard decision at electronic module constructed devices

open access: yesVojnotehnički Glasnik, 1998
An important maintainability design decision is whether to design a particular module unit for repair or discard at failure (repair/discard decision). In this work the effects of this decision to criteria of corrective maintenance are analyzed.
