Finite-Time Synchronization of Uncertain Fractional-Order Quaternion-Valued Neural Networks with Discontinuous Activation Function

open access: yesFractal and Fractional
This study explores finite-time synchronization (FTS) in fractional-order quaternion-valued neural networks (FQVNNs) characterized by discontinuous activation functions and uncertainties in parameters.

A Thermodynamic Model of Antiferroelectics and Its Application to Electric Field Induced Antiferroelectric‐Ferroelectric Transition in PbZrO3

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A thermodynamic model that incorporates ferroelectric, antiferroelectric, and antiferrodistortive orders of PbZrO3${\rm PbZrO}_3$ is established and parameterized based on experimental measurements and first‐principles calculations. We derive a Clapeyron‐like equation for describing the temperature‐dependence of critical electric fields for the ...

Atom Probe Tomography as an Emerging Tool for Understanding Defect‑Driven Mechanisms in HfO2‑Based Ferroelectrics

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This Perspective highlights atom probe tomography as a powerful tool for understanding the atomic‐scale defect chemistry in HfO2‐based ferroelectrics. 3D mapping of dopants, point defects, and interface chemistry can provide new insight into defect‐driven mechanisms underpinning the ferroelectricity in the system and guide the design of more reliable ...

Effects of Small Random Perturbations in the Extended Glass–Kauffman Model of Gene Regulatory Networks

open access: yesMathematics
A mathematical justification of some basic structural properties of stochastically perturbed gene regulatory networks, including those with autoregulation and delay, is offered in this paper.

An Edible Chitosan‐Based Acoustic Sensor for Sound‐Responsive Actuation in Edible Robots

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This study introduces an edible acoustic sensor for robotic food and edible robotics. Built from a chitosan piezoelectric film between gold electrodes, the sensor enables acoustic communication through ON/OFF keying. Integrated into an edible robot with pneumatically actuated arms and neck, it responds to high‐frequency tones.

Analysis of the discontinuous Galerkin method for elliptic problems on surfaces [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
We extend the discontinuous Galerkin framework to a linear second-order elliptic problem on a compact smooth connected and oriented surface in ℝ3. An interior penalty (IP) method is introduced on a discrete surface and we derive a priori error estimates ...

Gradient‐Conductivity Architecture Enables Synchronous Enhancement of Sensitivity and Detection Range in Multifunctional All‐Paper Sensors

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A gradient‐engineered all‐paper sensor is fabricated by integrating MXene and in situ grown AgNPs within hierarchical cellulose networks. The device breaks the sensitivity–detection range trade‐off through cascaded conductive pathways, enabling ultrahigh pressure sensitivity, humidity–pressure decoupled dual‐mode sensing, and outstanding EMI shielding,

Fractal Functions of Discontinuous Approximation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
A procedure for the definition of discontinuous real functions is developed, based on a fractal methodology. For this purpose, a binary operation in the space of bounded functions on an interval is established.

Melanin's Role in Balancing Mechanical Strength and Reproductive Output in Environmentally Stressed Fungal Spores

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Melanin content directly controls fungal spore mechanical properties, with pigmented spores achieving rupture forces two orders of magnitude higher than hyaline spores. Environmental stress drives this quantity‐quality tradeoff; stressed species invest energy in melanin‐reinforced, mechanically superior thick‐walled, super‐hydrophobic spores, while ...
