Programmable Stepwise Heteroepitaxial Growth of Colloidal Crystals With Different Phases

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Stepwise heteroepitaxial growth is adapted to colloidal crystal engineering with DNA, enabling face‐centered cubic (fcc) facets to grow on body‐centered cubic (bcc) crystals with 110 facets. This approach tolerates large lattice mismatches, extending heteroepitaxy beyond the limits of conventional atomic systems.

$L_p$-Estimates for SPDE with Discontinuous Coefficients in Domains

open access: yesElectronic Journal of Probability, 2005
The author considers stochastic partial differential equations of divergence form with discontinuous and unbounded coefficients. Working on Sobolev spaces and using an \(L^p\) theory for this class of equations, the author gives an existence and uniqueness results on \(\mathbb R^d\), \(\mathbb R^d_+\) and on \(C^1\) domains.

Efficient Osmotic Energy Conversion Enabled by Self‐Standing COF Membranes With Varied Sulfonic Acid Group Density

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Self‐standing, strong sulfonated covalent organic framework membranes with varied ionic‐group density are developed for osmotic energy conversion. Optimized charge‐governed nanochannels enable highly selective ion transport, delivering a power density of 24.53 W m−2 under seawater/freshwater salinity gradients.

Carleman estimates for the heat equation with discontinuous diffusion coefficients

open access: yes, 2008
We consider the heat equation with a diffusion coefficient that is discontinuous at an interface. We give global Carleman estimates for solutions of this equation, even if the jump of the coefficient across the interface has not a constant ...

Surface‐Functionalized LLZO‐Incorporated Multilayer Composite Solid Electrolytes for Dendrite Suppression and Efficient Ionic Conduction in Lithium–Metal Batteries

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
A soft–hard tri‐layer composite electrolyte that couples fast Li+ transport with reinforced interfacial stability to enable high‐conductivity, mechanically robust, dendrite‐free lithium‐metal batteries. ABSTRACT The development of solid polymer electrolytes is central to safe, high‐energy lithium‐metal batteries (LMBs); however, persistent challenges ...

Dynamic contact with normal compliance wear and discontinuous friction coefficient

open access: yes, 2002
We apply the recent theory of evolution inclusions forset-valued pseudomonotone maps, developed in Kuttler and Shillor[Commun.Contemp.Math.,1(1999),pp.87–123]to the problem of dynamic frictional contact with normal compliance and wear.

Phase Diagrams Enable Solid‐State Battery Design

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces, EarlyView.
Batteries are non‐equilibrium devices with inherent thermodynamic driving forces to react at interfaces, regardless of kinetics or operating conditions. Chemical potential mismatches across interfaces are dissipated via interfacial reactions. In this work, it is illustrated how phase diagrams and chemical potential maps predict degradation pathways but

Energy Band Alignment and Electro‐Optical Behavior of Nearly Unstrained Monolayer MoS2 Heterostructures With GaN

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces, EarlyView.
Large size (∼100 µm) monolayer MoS2 grown by LPI‐CVD on n‐GaN exhibit a high n‐type doping, very low strain, and a type‐I band alignment at MoS2/GaN interface. Photocurrent measurements under illumination with photon energies from ∼2 to ∼5 eV show superior electro‐optical performances of these MoS2/n‐GaN heterojunctions as compared to Ni/n‐GaN devices ...

Robust Design Optimization of Supersonic Biplane Airfoil Using Efficient Uncertainty Analysis Method for Discontinuous Problem

open access: yesAerospace
Busemann’s supersonic biplane airfoil can reduce wave drag through shock interactions at its designed freestream Mach number. However, a choking phenomenon occurs with a decrease in the freestream Mach number, and the drag coefficient increases ...

Influence of Carbon Nanoparticles on Electrically Induced Wear of Grease‐Lubricated Steels

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces, EarlyView.
When an electric current enters a pair of rubbing surfaces, enormous damage takes place. In this research, how such damage occurs in the presence of protective grease and the mitigation with added carbon nanoparticles, were investigated. It was discovered that those particles regulate transport and interfacial electrical stability of the grease ...
