A new discontinuous PWM strategy of neutral-point clamped inverter

Conference Record of the 2000 IEEE Industry Applications Conference. Thirty-Fifth IAS Annual Meeting and World Conference on Industrial Applications of Electrical Energy (Cat. No.00CH37129), 2000
In-this paper, a new carrier-based discontinuous PWM strategy for neutral-point-clamped (NPC) PWM inverter is proposed. The proposed discontinuous PWM scheme takes advantage of the special properties available in NPC inverter to minimize switching loss of the inverter simultaneously with neutral-point voltage control.

Carrier-Based Discontinuous PWM for a Five-Level Unidirectional Rectifier

IEEE Transactions on Power Electronics, 2020
In applications, where bidirectional power flow is not required, unidirectional pulsewidth modulated (PWM) rectifiers are advantageous in terms of power density, hardware simplicity, and reliability compared to the conventional PWM rectifiers. For high-power medium-voltage applications, a discontinuous pulsewidth modulation (DPWM) strategy is useful in

Averaged modeling of PWM converters operating in discontinuous conduction mode

IEEE Transactions on Power Electronics, 2001
Various aspects of averaged modeling of hard-switching pulse-width modulated (PWM) converters operating in the discontinuous conduction mode (DCM) are studied. A more streamlined modeling procedure is proposed which serves as a general framework for comparing different models.

A New Generalized Discontinuous-PWM Strategy for Active Power Filters

APEC 07 - Twenty-Second Annual IEEE Applied Power Electronics Conference and Exposition, 2007
Classical discontinuous pulse width modulations (DPWM's) may not be efficiently applied in active power filters, because it is hard to predict the peak values of the inverter current, and consequently it is difficult to calculate the position of the clamped interval, that minimizes the switching losses in any operating point.

A novel discontinuous space vector PWM control for multiphase inverter

International Symposium on Power Electronics, Electrical Drives, Automation and Motion, 2006. SPEEDAM 2006., 2006
PWM control of multi-phase inverter is one of the key technologies in the ships electrical propulsion. In this paper, a novel discontinuous space vector PWM (DSVPWM) method of multiphase inverter is proposed by arranging the two zero vectors skillfully.

The Generalized Discontinuous PWM Scheme for Three-Phase Voltage Source Inverters

IEEE Transactions on Industrial Electronics, 2004
This paper presents analytical techniques for the determination of the expressions for the modulation signals used in the carrier-based sinusoidal and generalized discontinuous pulse-width modulation schemes for two-level, three-phase voltage source inverters. The proposed modulation schemes are applicable to inverters generating balanced or unbalanced

Carrier-based discontinuous PWM modulation for current source converters

Conference Record of the 2004 IEEE Industry Applications Conference, 2004. 39th IAS Annual Meeting., 2004
Two generalized discontinuous carrier-based pulse-width modulation (GDPWM) methodologies for three-phase current source converters (CSC) are developed based on the classical space vector method and the carrier-based generalized discontinuous modulation scheme for voltage source converters (VSC).

A new time-domain discontinuous space-vector PWM technique in overmodulation region

IEEE Transactions on Industrial Electronics, 2003
A new discontinuous modulation method based on space-vector control is proposed and analyzed. The proposed technique employs a pulse-dropping method and is designed in the time domain. It features a very wide modulation range while maintaining the required waveform qualities and switching numbers in the overmodulation region.

ANALYSIS OF DISCONTINUOUS CONDUCTION IN A PWM DC CHOPPER DRIVE SYSTEM

Electric Machines & Power Systems, 1983
ABSTRACT This paper is concerned with the problem of analysis of quasi-steady and transient processes in a p.w.m. d.c. chopper drive system. An analitycal approach to the performance analysis of a d.c. separately excited motor fed from a chopper and operated in the region of discontinuous conduction is presented.
