A MIXED BENTHAM-RAWLS CRITERION FOR INTERGENERATIONAL EQUITY: THEORY AND IMPLICATIONS [PDF]

open access: yes
Ranking development programs using integrals of discounted utilities can yield drastic consequences that offend our sense of justice. New alternative social welfare criteria should be considered. A reaction to discounted utilitarianism is to moderate its

Early‐stage health technology assessment of a curative gene therapy for multiple sclerosis

open access: yesBritish Journal of Clinical Pharmacology, EarlyView.
Aims Multiple sclerosis (MS) is associated with significant early morbidity, reduced life expectancy and substantial healthcare and societal costs. The primary objective of this study is to assess the early cost‐effectiveness potential of a novel gene therapy, IMMUTOL, for MS compared with current high‐efficacy treatment sequences.

Macroeconomic resilience in a DSGE model [PDF]

open access: yes
We use the dynamic stochastic general equilibrium (DSGE) model of Altig et al. (2005) to analyse the resilience of an economy in the face of external shocks. The term resilience refers to the ability of an economy to prosper in the face of shocks.

Cost‐utility analysis of nusinersen–risdiplam switch in patients with spinal muscular atrophy in Croatia: A discrete event simulation model

open access: yesBritish Journal of Clinical Pharmacology, EarlyView.
Introduction In recent years, the treatment of spinal muscular atrophy (SMA), a rare disease, has significantly progressed, improving patients' survival and overall quality of life. However, current SMA treatments are expensive, and some (nusinersen) are very inconvenient for patients.

Discounting when income is stochastic and climate change policies [PDF]

open access: yes
We introduce stochastic income into the standard exponential discounting model and study dependence of effective discount rates on the type of the underlying stochastic process and agent's current income level. If the income follows a process with i.i.d.

Efficacy, safety and cost‐effectiveness of CAR‐T therapy

open access: yesBritish Journal of Clinical Pharmacology, EarlyView.
CAR T‐cells demonstrate high efficacy in blood cancers, including ALL, MM and DLBCL. Innovations target solid tumours despite challenges such as antigen escape. Combination therapies enhance the delivery and infiltration of CAR T cells. Toxicity, cost and resistance remain major barriers to clinical use.

Can boarding schools help looked after and vulnerable children improve academic attainment?

open access: yesBritish Educational Research Journal, EarlyView.
Abstract The education of children in statutory care, or at the edge of care, is a serious concern for governments and policymakers. How to promote educational opportunities for these children can involve challenging and often contentious proposals. In this paper, we study one proposal put into practice in England: the provision to children who are in ...

Phylogenomics and Biogeography of the Eastern Asian–Eastern North American Disjunct Genus Hylodesmum (Fabaceae)

open access: yesBiological Diversity, EarlyView.
Integrating data from plastid genomes, nrDNA, and 353 low‐copy nuclear genes, this study establishes a robust phylogenetic framework for Hylodesmum. This framework supports a taxonomic revision recognizing 18 species and reveals a complex pattern of bidirectional EA–ENA dispersal, with mammals as a plausible dispersal agent. ABSTRACT Phylogenomics with
