On Truth and Emancipation

open access: yesNordicum-Mediterraneum, 2012
This article has two main currents. First, it argues that an affinity or similarity can be identified between the philosophy of Gianni Vattimo (the so-called “Weak Thinking”) and the “Discourse Theory” of Ernesto Laclau and Chantal Mouffe.

The Many Functions of Discourse Particles: A Computational Model of Pragmatic Interpretation [PDF]

open access: yes, 1997
We present a connectionist model for the interpretation of discourse\ud particles in real dialogues that is based on neuronal\ud principles of categorization (categorical perception, prototype\ud formation, contextual interpretation).

COMP–PMEPA1 axis promotes epithelial‐to‐mesenchymal transition in breast cancer cells

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study reveals that cartilage oligomeric matrix protein (COMP) promotes epithelial‐to‐mesenchymal transition (EMT) in breast cancer. We identify PMEPA1 (protein TMEPAI) as a novel COMP‐binding partner that mediates EMT via binding to the TSP domains of COMP, establishing the COMP–PMEPA1 axis as a key EMT driver in breast cancer.

Pre‐analytical optimization of cell‐free DNA and extracellular vesicle‐derived DNA for mutation detection in liquid biopsies

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Pre‐analytical handling critically determines liquid biopsy performance. This study defines practical best‐practice conditions for cell‐free DNA (cfDNA) and extracellular vesicle–derived DNA (evDNA), showing how processing time, storage conditions, tube type, and plasma input volume affect DNA integrity and mutation detection.

The Role of Qualitative Interviews in Discourse Theory

open access: yesCritical Approaches to Discourse Analysis across Disciplines, 2012
In discourse theoretical studies the qualitative interview is scarcely treated as a method, but as empirical data. Some important methodological challenges for discourse theory are thereby being obscured.

EDNRB‐dependent endothelin signaling reduces proliferation and promotes proneural‐to‐mesenchymal transition in gliomas

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Glioma cells mainly express the endothelin receptor EDNRB, while EDNRA is restricted to a perivascular tumor subpopulation. Endothelin signaling reduces glioma cell proliferation while promoting migration and a proneural‐to‐mesenchymal transition associated with poor prognosis. This pathway activates Ca2+, K+, ERK, and STAT3 signalings and is regulated

Engineered extracellular vesicles enriched with the miR‐214/199a cluster enhance the efficacy of chemotherapy in ovarian cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Loss of the miR‐214/199a cluster is associated with recurrence in ovarian cancer. Engineered small extracellular vesicles (m214‐sEVs) elevate miR‐214‐3p/miR‐199a‐5p in tumor cells, suppress β‐catenin, TLR4, and YKT6 signaling, reprogram tumor‐derived sEV cargo, reduce chemoresistance and migration, and enhance carboplatin efficacy and survival in ...

Review: Martin Nonhoff (2006). Politischer Diskurs und Hegemonie. Das Projekt "Soziale Marktwirtschaft" [Political Discourse and Hegemony. The Project "Soziale Marktwirtschaft"]

open access: yesForum: Qualitative Social Research, 2007
Following the thoughts of LACLAU and MOUFFEs hegemony theories, NONHOFF develops hegemony and hegemonic strategies as discoursive phenomena. He identifies core strategies which put political projects in hegemonic positions.

IMPDH inhibition enhances cytarabine efficacy in SAMHD1‐expressing leukaemia cells via guanine nucleotide depletion

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Cytarabine is a key therapy for acute myeloid leukaemia (AML), but its efficacy is limited by the dNTPase SAMHD1, which hydrolyses its active metabolite. Screening nucleotide biosynthesis inhibitors revealed that IMPDH inhibitors selectively sensitise SAMHD1‐proficient AML cells to cytarabine.

Capitalistic Competition as a Communicative Community - Why Politics Is Less “Deliberative” than Markets [PDF]

open access: yes
Discourse theorists such as Habermas tend to disregard the communicative character and discoursive power of market processes and at the same time overrate the ability of political deliberation to discover and implement social problem solutions ...
