Enabling Digital Continuity in Virtual Manufacturing for Eco‐Efficiency Assessment of Lightweight Structures by Means of a Domain‐Specific Structural Mechanics Language: Requirements, Idea and Proof of Concept

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This article presents a solver‐agnostic domain‐specific language (DSL) for computational structural mechanics that strengthens interoperability in virtual product development. Using a hierarchical data model, the DSL enables seamless exchange between diverse simulation tools and numerical methods.

A Workflow to Accelerate Microstructure‐Sensitive Fatigue Life Predictions

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study introduces a workflow to accelerate predictions of microstructure‐sensitive fatigue life. Results from frameworks with varying levels of simplification are benchmarked against published reference results. The analysis reveals a trade‐off between accuracy and model complexity, offering researchers a practical guide for selecting the optimal ...

Multimodal Mechanical Testing of Additively Manufactured Ti6Al4V Lattice Structures: Compression, Bending, and Fatigue

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
In this experimental study, the mechanical properties of additively manufactured Ti‐6Al‐4V lattice structures of different geometries are characterized using compression, four point bending and fatigue testing. While TPMS designs show superior fatigue resistance, SplitP and Honeycomb lattice structures combine high stiffness and strength. The resulting

Interaction between Molten Al‐Killed Mn–B Steel and Carbon‐Bonded MgO Refractories Based on Recyclates

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
High‐temperature interactions between low‐sulfur Al‐killed Mn–B steel and MgO–C refractories (0 and 50 wt% recyclates) are studied via finger immersion tests (1600 °C). Surface‐active elements influence infiltration. MgO/CaS layer forms, along with spinel and calcium silicate.

Investigation of parameters influencing erosive wear using DEM

open access: yesFriction, 2019
The effects of several parameters on the erosive wear were studied using the discrete element method (DEM). The Finnie model was implemented using an open-source code.

Discrete Element Modelling of Drag Finishing

open access: yesProcedia CIRP, 2015
AbstractDrag finishing is a machining process that is used to improve the surface topology of workpieces. Workpieces are moved through a bulk of differently shaped abrasives, the so called media. Material removal is caused by the relative motion between workpiece and media.

A Thermodynamic 3D Model for the Simulation of Diffusion‐Controlled Alloying Processes in Heterogeneous Material Structures

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A numerical model resulting from irreversible thermodynamics for describing transport processes is introduced, focusing on thermodynamic activity gradients as the actual driving force for diffusion. Implemented in CUDA C++ and using CalPhaD methods for determining the necessary activity data, the model accurately simulates interdiffusion in aluminum ...

Track ballast modelling by discrete element method

open access: yesGrađevinar, 2019
An increase in axle load and travel speed causes faster degradation of track structure and, hence, of the ballast prism. Crushing of stone grains in ballast due to excessive contact forces among these grains causes degradation in the form of filling of ...

Investigation of Laser Ablation and Brush Pre‐Treatments for AlCu Cold Roll Bonding in Oxygen‐Free Conditions

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
It is shown that laser ablation pretreatment under oxygen‐free conditions enables copper–aluminium bonding at significantly lower deformation degrees and improved properties compared to mechanical brushing. Laser ablation further increases interface contact area and induces favourable residual stress states and microstructural compatibility ...

Discrete element modelling of vibrating screens

open access: yesMinerals Engineering, 2018
Abstract Screening is one of the most widely used unit operations in mineral processing plants. In crushing circuits, the proper selection and sizing, optimization and their operation as efficient as possible are essential in terms of the performance and profitability of the crushing circuit and the whole plant.
