A Taxonomy of Discrete Manufacturing Systems

Operations Research, 1991
This paper proposes a classification scheme for discrete manufacturing systems. It also includes a brief discussion of modeling, analysis, and optimization techniques that have been applied to manufacturing. This taxonomy is intended to be a first step in fitting existing environments to models.

DISCRETE-TIME MINIMAX PRODUCTION PLANNING FOR MANUFACTURING SYSTEMS

Engineering Optimization, 2000
This paper deals with the production planning problem for discrete-time manufacturing systems with deteriorating items. A minimax approach is presented throughout the paper for the case where the demand is unknown. Both the cases of finite horizon and infinite horizon are discussed.

Open control architecture for discrete manufacturing automation

1999 7th IEEE International Conference on Emerging Technologies and Factory Automation. Proceedings ETFA '99 (Cat. No.99TH8467), 2003
This paper presents results of the European ESPRIT project 8823 DCC (discrete cell control), aimed to define the reference architecture of a cell controller, describing the required communication and information infrastructure, applications and engineering support.

Observers for discrete-event manufacturing systems

Proceedings IECON '91: 1991 International Conference on Industrial Electronics, Control and Instrumentation, 2002
The author describes the design of observers for a class of discrete-event dynamic systems where events can become unobservable in real time. He defines a novel temporal model that augments a finite state machine to describe both the temporal and behavioral attributes of the system.

Discrete-event modeling and control of manufacturing systems

Proceedings of the 1998 IEEE International Conference on Control Applications (Cat. No.98CH36104), 2002
In this article discrete-event state equations are applied to model and control manufacturing systems. Their input and output variables and the state itself are formulated in a suitable space of event sequences. Events are defined as pairs (fact, time), the fact being an element of the quantity space of the manufacturing objects produced, consumed and ...

AUTOMATIC CALCULUS OF TOLERANCES IN DISCRETE PART MANUFACTURING

Computer-Aided Design, 1986
The paper discusses the problem of automatic preparation of different tolerance analysis problems for numeric solution from a given geometric model of the nominal part. The problem of finding the variation of untoleranced part dimensions with, respect to a tolerancing scheme, and the problem of allocating variabilities (permitted inaccuracies) to ...

Manufacturability of high-performance discrete electronic devices

Electronics & Communication Engineering Journal, 2002
Whereas the last four decades have seen a steady stream of new and new-generation devices for all forms of computing and communications, the next decade will see an increase in emphasis on low-cost manufacture. The reasons are manifold, but include new technical challenges, the structure of the industry, and an ever tighter focus on return on ...

Discrete manufacturing optimizing control through product function

IFAC Proceedings Volumes, 1977
Optimizing control through Droduct function is an approach to discrete manufacturing which results in tightened product variance and imoroved long term profit. Complex products such as automotive distributors are described functionally using mathematical models, computer simulations or empirical models.
