Design and manufacture of discrete components

Plastics, Rubber and Composites, 2005
AbstractThe use of computers in product design and manufacturing today is accepted as normal working practice, the benefits are very clear, as the present study will show, but often the solutions available have a high degree of fragmentation, and are often described as being 'vertically fragmented'.

A web-based simulator for a discrete manufacturing system

IECON 2016 - 42nd Annual Conference of the IEEE Industrial Electronics Society, 2016
Virtualization has become a supportive approach for simulating system behaviour efficiently thanks to the revolution of computer and smart devices. In fact, the employment of running virtual tools that mimic the real physical world is nowadays a requirement in some fields as in e.g. industrial automation. This research work presents a virtual tool that

Models for simulation and discrete control of manufacturing systems

Proceedings. 1986 IEEE International Conference on Robotics and Automation, 1986
A methodology is presented for constructing models of manufacturing processes for simulation and design of the discrete control logic. The models represent the discrete event evolution of the system as well as features of the underlying continuous processes.

A model for discrete product flows in manufacturing plants

Proceedings of the 2014 IEEE Emerging Technology and Factory Automation (ETFA), 2014
Many tasks in factory automation can be solved with the bare knowledge of used and possible product flow paths in a plant. Unfortunately, the information about these is usually not available explicitly, but is distributed among different models and tools.

Simulation of Discrete Manufacturer with an End Product Feedback

IFAC Proceedings Volumes, 2013
Abstract It is shown that for effective management of a discrete manufacturer with an end product feedback, the hierarchy strategy accompanied by the control of involved technological operations is to be applied. The mathematical tools are proposed and implemented in the simulation system that allows to determine the most effective schemes for a ...

Development of a Discrete Slicer for Additive Manufacturing

2021
The paper proposes an improved discrete slicer algorithm for preparing a 3D model for printing on multi-axis printers, as well as approaches to improving slicing performance. The discrete-rotary slicer under consideration uses a selection of cutting planes and provides better filling in the places where the models bend.

An Approach for Interconnection and Unification of State Models in Discrete Manufacturing

2018 IEEE 16th International Conference on Industrial Informatics (INDIN), 2018
The overall manufacturing process for a product can be composed of different phases and tasks. Each task can be seen having its own recipe or set of steps to follow and parameters to apply. The ways to represent these phases and tasks can be different depending on the level within the automation pyramid (shop floor / manufacturing execution ...

Shop Floor Scheduling in Discrete Parts Manufacturing

1999
This paper discusses the architecture and the algorithmic framework of an automatic shop floor planning and scheduling system that is currently used in practice. After reviewing some general trends in manufacturing and the role of planning and scheduling systems in particular, it outlines a decomposition framework which forms the basis of the system ...

Outline for discrete part manufacturing engineering

1993 CompEuro Proceedings Computers in Design, Manufacturing, and Production, 2002
It is argued that within the framework of computer integrated manufacturing and engineering reference modeling, manufacturing system models may be and must be verified by prototyping supported by computer-aided methodology rather than by paper-aided methodology.

A Manufacturing Execution System for Discrete Industry

Applied Mechanics and Materials, 2014
Manufacturing Execution System (MES) is widely used in enterprise production scene. But most manufacturing execution systems are expensive and mostly for the continuous production-oriented enterprises. Thus, they are hardly applied to a large number of existing discrete manufacturing enterprises. For discrete manufacturing companies, on-site processing
