Structure-preserving discretization of incompressible fluids [PDF]

open access: yesPhysica D: Nonlinear Phenomena, 2011
The geometric nature of Euler fluids has been clearly identified and extensively studied over the years, culminating with Lagrangian and Hamiltonian descriptions of fluid dynamics where the configuration space is defined as the volume-preserving diffeomorphisms, and Kelvin's circulation theorem is viewed as a consequence of Noether's theorem associated

Epidemic models with discrete state structures

open access: yesPhysica D: Nonlinear Phenomena, 2021
The state of an infectious disease can represent the degree of infectivity of infected individuals, or susceptibility of susceptible individuals, or immunity of recovered individuals, or a combination of these measures. When the disease progression is long such as for HIV, individuals often experience switches among different states.

Modelling Atherosclerotic Plaque Cap Mechanics: Microcalcifications Reduce Mechanical Properties in Mesenchymal Stromal Cell‐Based Model

open access: yesAdvanced Biology, EarlyView.
This study develops a tissue‐engineered model of the atherosclerotic cap using human mesenchymal stromal cells (MSCs). After 2 weeks of culture to produce a collagenous matrix, a mineralizing medium induces microcalcifications over 4 weeks. These constructs, imaged with second harmonic generation microscopy, lead to reduced ultimate stress at rupture ...

Loss of Stat3 in Prx1+ Progenitors Impairs Molar Root Development

open access: yesAdvanced Biology, EarlyView.
Stat3 critically regulates mandibular first molar and alveolar bone morphogenesis. Conditional ablation of Stat3 disrupts the osteogenic capacity of Prx1+ mesenchymal progenitors, as evidenced across in vivo and in vitro models. Abstract Signal Transducer and Activator of Transcription 3 (Stat3) acts as a central transcriptional modulator coordinating ...

NEW ORGANOTIN (IV) OXALATO ADDUCTS: SYNTHESIS AND SPECTROSCOPIC STUDIES

open access: yesScientific Study & Research: Chemistry & Chemical Engineering, Biotechnology, Food Industry, 2012
Seven new oxalato organotin (IV) adducts have been synthesized, their infrared and Mössbauer studies carried out. Their structures are discrete, the oxalate behaving as a chelating or bridging ligand. The key role of the cation is noteworthy.

Robocasting of a Water‐Based Biopolymer/WO3 Nanopowder Paste as a Precursor to Tungsten Carbide Lattices

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study demonstrates a novel, additive manufacturing approach to produce complex, porous tungsten carbide structures using water‐based direct ink writing/robocasting. Leveraging a modified commercial printer and heat treatment, the process yields lightweight, electrically conductive 3D architectures capable of supporting a mechanical load.
