Discrete symmetries of functional determinants [PDF]
We study discrete (duality) symmetries of functional determinants. An exact transformation of the effective action under the inversion of background fields $ (x) \to ^{-1}(x)$ is found. We show that in many cases this inversion does not change functional determinants.

Exact Solutions of Newell-Whitehead-Segel Equations Using Symmetry Transformations
In this article, Lie and discrete symmetry transformation groups of linear and nonlinear Newell-Whitehead-Segel (NWS) equations are obtained. By using these symmetry transformation groups, several group invariant solutions of considered NWS equations ...

Evolution of discrete symmetries
Symmetries are known to dictate important physical properties and can be used as a design principle in particular in wave physics, including wave structures and the resulting propagation dynamics. Local symmetries, in the sense of a symmetry that holds only in a finite domain of space, can be either the result of a self-organization process or a ...

METHOD FOR ASSESSING THE SYMMETRY OF OBJECTS ON DIGITAL BINARY IMAGES BASED ON FOURIER DESCRIPTOR [PDF]
In this paper we solve the problem of finding the symmetry axis of the object in a digital binary image. A new axial symmetry criterion is formulated for a connected discrete object.

Lagrangian reduction of discrete mechanical systems by stages [PDF]
In this work we introduce a category of discrete Lagrange--Poincare systems LP_d and study some of its properties. In particular, we show that the discrete mechanical systems and the discrete mechanical systems obtained by the Lagrangian reduction of ...

Natural R-Parity, \mu-term, and Fermion Mass Hierarchy From Discrete Gauge Symmetries [PDF]
In the minimal supersymmetric Standard Model with seesaw neutrino masses we show how R-parity can emerge naturally as a discrete gauge symmetry. The same discrete symmetry explains the smallness of the \mu-term (the Higgsino mass parameter) via the ...

Gauge origin of discrete flavor symmetries in heterotic orbifolds
We show that non-Abelian discrete symmetries in orbifold string models have a gauge origin. This can be understood when looking at the vicinity of a symmetry enhanced point in moduli space.
