Foreign speech sound discrimination and associative word learning lead to a fast reconfiguration of resting-state networks

open access: yesNeuroImage, 2023
Learning new words in an unfamiliar language is a complex endeavor that requires the orchestration of multiple perceptual and cognitive functions. Although the neural mechanisms governing word learning are becoming better understood, little is known ...

Learning to discriminate face view

open access: yesJournal of Vision, 2010
Although perceptual learning of simple visual features has been studied extensively and intensively for many years, we still know little about the mechanisms of perceptual learning of complex object recognition. In a series of seven experiments, human perceptual learning in discrimination of in-depth orientation of face view was studied using ...

A large‐scale retrospective study in metastatic breast cancer patients using circulating tumour DNA and machine learning to predict treatment outcome and progression‐free survival

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
There is an unmet need in metastatic breast cancer patients to monitor therapy response in real time. In this study, we show how a noninvasive and affordable strategy based on sequencing of plasma samples with longitudinal tracking of tumour fraction paired with a statistical model provides valuable information on treatment response in advance of the ...

Fighting Discrimination through Sport? Evaluating Sport-Based Workshops in Irish Schools

open access: yesEducation Sciences, 2023
Discrimination based on ethnicity, gender, or sexual orientation remains a pressing challenge throughout Europe, including within Ireland. Despite this, anti-discrimination education is lacking and uneven within school settings.

Detecting homologous recombination deficiency for breast cancer through integrative analysis of genomic data

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study develops a semi‐supervised classifier integrating multi‐genomic data (1404 training/5893 validation samples) to improve homologous recombination deficiency (HRD) detection in breast cancer. Our method demonstrates prognostic value and predicts chemotherapy/PARP inhibitor sensitivity in HRD+ tumours.

Rights and responsibilities: Fair treatment for adults with learning disabilities [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
This leaflet discusses fair treatment for adults with learning disabilities. It set out to see if the Disability Discrimination Act (1995) had helped service providers to treat people with learning disabilities ...

Crime Against History: Slavery, Race, and the 1776 Report

open access: yesNew Directions for Adult and Continuing Education, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT With the 2025 executive order, “Ending Radical Indoctrination in K‐12 Schooling,” the Trump administration reestablished the 1776 Commission, which produced The 1776 Report. This article argues that this report, which is an unsubtle response to The 1619 Project, reveals how White Christian Nationalists wish to mandate that a hyper‐patriotic ...

Dissociable processes for orientation discrimination learning and contextual illusion magnitude.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2014
Previous research suggests an inverse relationship between human orientation discrimination sensitivity and tilt illusion magnitude. To test whether these perceptual functions are inherently linked, we measured both orientation discrimination sensitivity
