最近10年間にチャネル蛋白の遺伝子異常に基づく疾患が続々と同定され,チャネル病(channelopathy)と呼ばれるようになっている.チャネルが神経・筋の刺激伝導の主役であることを反映して,チャネル病には神経・筋疾患が多いが,心臓のQT延長症候群や腎の水・電解質疾患も含まれる.分子生物学により臨床と基礎の垣根が一挙に消失することがあるが,チャネル病はその典型例である.チャネル病解析から,障害されている遺伝子に基づく疾患分類の大切さが浮かび上がってきた.また遺伝子変異の種類から,コードされているチャネル蛋白の溝造・機能共関についての示唆を得ることもできた.治療に対する試みは始ったばかりであるが,今後の進展が期待できる.
