Mice as Reservoirs of the Lyme Disease Spirochete
American Journal of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene, 1985In evaluating the white-footed mouse as a reservoir host for the Lyme disease spirochete, we compared spirochete infection in vector ticks (Ixodes dammini) having different histories of attachment to these mice, estimated their relative importance as hosts for immature I.

Incompetence of Deer as Reservoirs of the Lyme Disease Spirochete
American Journal of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene, 1988To determine whether deer may serve as reservoir hosts for the Lyme disease spirochete, we sought evidence of infection in nymphal Ixodes dammini derived from larvae that had engorged on white-tailed deer. A total of 19 deer were shot in two Lyme disease foci in Massachusetts during September 1986, the season in which larvae were most abundant.

Arthropod Vectors as Reservoirs of Microbial Disease Agents
Annual Review of Entomology, 1961The subject of arthropod vectors as reservoirs of agents of animal diseases is difficult to review because of divergent viewpoints of the definition of a "reservoir." Some investigators would reserve this term for vertebrate hosts and the term "vector" for intermediate hosts (141).

But it is also considered a hostile environment harbouring plant pathogenic nematodes, bacteria and fungi. The most common attitude is to try to eliminate the plant pathogenic organisms by biocidal treatments such as methyl bromide ...

Competence of Pheasants as Reservoirs for Lyme Disease Spirochetes
Journal of Medical Entomology, 1998Pheasants, Phasianus colchicus L., constitute a major part of the ground-feeding avifauna of England and Wales and are important hosts to immature stages of Ixodes ricinus L., the principal tick vector of Lyme borreliosis spirochetes in Europe. Therefore, their competence as hosts for Borrelia burgdorferi Johnson, Schmid, Steigerwalt & Brenner sensu ...
