CYP2C19 Polymorphisms and Clinical Outcomes Following Percutaneous Coronary Intervention in the Million Veteran Program

open access: yesClinical Pharmacology &Therapeutics, EarlyView.
CYP2C19 loss‐of‐function (LOF) alleles decrease the antiplatelet effect of clopidogrel following percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) in patients presenting with acute coronary syndrome (ACS). The impact of genotype in patients undergoing PCI for stable ischemic heart disease (SIHD) in real‐world populations is less clear.

The effects of climate on bat morphology across space and time

open access: yesEcography, EarlyView.
According to Bergmann's and Allen's rules, climate change may drive morphological shifts in species, affecting body size and appendage length. These rules predict that species in colder climates tend to be larger and have shorter appendages to improve thermoregulation. Bats are thought to be sensitive to climate and are therefore expected to respond to

The Gold Rush Origins of California's Wheat Economy

open access: yesAmérica Latina en la Historia Económica, 2010
This paper explores the near-simultaneous development of the gold rush and grain production in California during the early 1850s. Economic models predict that the production of tradable goods such as wheat are unlikely during a mineral boom due to the ...

Germany’s persistent balance-of-payments disequilibrium revisited

open access: yesPSL Quarterly Review, 2014
The work examines Germany’s balance-of-payments surplus. The author first briefly considers the United States balance of payments. The German balance of payments is then analysed according to structural aspects, absorption, the level of domestic ...

Powerful yet challenging: mechanistic niche models for predicting invasive species potential distribution under climate change

open access: yesEcography, EarlyView.
Risk assessments of invasive species present one of the most challenging applications of species distribution models (SDMs) due to the fundamental issues of distributional disequilibrium, niche changes, and truncation. Invasive species often occupy only a fraction of their potential environmental and geographic ranges, as their spatiotemporal dynamics ...

Evidence for effective thermal boundary resistance from magnon/phonon disequilibrium [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2010
We use the time-resolved magneto-optical Kerr effect (TRMOKE) to measure the local temperature and heat flow dynamics in ferromagnetic SrRuO3 thin films. After heating by a pump pulse, the film temperature decays exponentially, indicating that the heat flow out of the film is limited by the film/substrate interface.
