Nonlinear Resonance in the Accretion Disk of a Millisecond Pulsar [PDF]

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal, 2004
Twin quasi-periodic millisecond modulations of the X-ray flux (kHz QPOs) have recently been reported from an accreting 2.5 ms X-ray pulsar. We identify modes of disk oscillations whose frequencies are in agreement with the observed ones when the rotating neutron star is modeled with realistic equations of state.

Integrated disk resonator on substrateless dielectric waveguide platform for terahertz switch applications

open access: yes, 2022
We present a terahertz single-pole double-throw (SPDT) switch based on an integrated disk resonator for a substrateless dielectric platform made of an all-silicon-based effective medium. The switch operates based on photoexcitation by using visible light

Physicochemical Reinforcement Unlocks Sterilization‐Stable Anisotropic Hydrogels for Cell‐Compatible Mock Arteries

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT In vitro arterial models offer ethical and robust alternatives for vascular research but require cytocompatible materials that replicate physiological mechanics. Poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA) hydrogels produced by directional freezing and salting‐out (PVA DFSO) are anisotropic yet lack stability for cell culture. Herein, methacrylated PVA (PVA‐MA)

Development of Gas Sensors on Microstrip Disk Resonators

open access: yesProcedia Engineering, 2014
Abstract Here it is reported about the development of microwave disk resonators and their employment as transducers in gas sensing devices. The sensors were developed by designing, modeling and realizing microstrip resonators on several microwave substrates, and by depositing sensing films on the disk.

Dual Acidic pH‐Responsive Post‐Crosslinked E‐Spun Nanofibrous Scaffolds Exhibiting Enhanced Disassembly and Release for Localized Cancer Treatment

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Dual acidic pH‐responsive degradable e‐spun nanofibrous mats crosslinked with acid‐labile imine and boronic ester linkages that exhibit rapid degradation and enhanced release of encapsulated anticancer drugs through their acid‐catalyzed hydrolysis and their doxorubicin‐loaded mats having desired antitumoral activity and hemocompatibility, as promising ...

On the Tilting of Protostellar Disks by Resonant Tidal Effects

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal, 2000
We consider the dynamics of a protostellar disk surrounding a star in a circular-orbit binary system. Our aim is to determine whether, if the disk is initially tilted with respect to the plane of the binary orbit, the inclination of the system will increase or decrease with time.

Long‐Term Hydrophilic, Anti‐Clotting, and Anti‐Fibrotic Dynamic Covalent Silicone‐Based Biomaterials

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Dynamic covalent crosslinking of a Schiff‐base silicone elastomer with hydrazide‐functionalized polymers is demonstrated to improve the long‐term hydrophilicity as well as the anti‐fouling and anti‐clotting properties of PDMS implants. The hydrazone‐functionalized material prevents hydrophobic recovery, resists clotting, and significantly reduces ...

A New Design of an MOEMS Gyroscope Based on a WGM Microdisk Resonator

open access: yesSensors, 2019
In this paper, we present a new design for a micro-opto-electro-mechanical (MOEMS) gyroscope based on a whispering-gallery mode (WGM) microdisk resonator and MEMS resonator.

Beyond Presumptions: Toward Mechanistic Clarity in Metal‐Free Carbon Catalysts for Electrochemical H2O2 Production via Data Science

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Metal‐free carbon catalysts enable the sustainable synthesis of hydrogen peroxide via two‐electron oxygen reduction; however, active site complexity continues to hinder reliable interpretation. This review critiques correlation‐based approaches and highlights the importance of orthogonal experimental designs, standardized catalyst passports ...
