Elinvar Materials: Recent Progress and Challenges

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Elinvar materials, exhibiting temperature‐invariant elastic modulus, are critical for precision instruments and emerging technologies. This article reviews recent progress in the field, with a focus on the anomalous thermoelastic behavior observed in key material systems.

Quantitative evaluation of dislocation density in SUS316L utilizing non-contact microwave reflection method

open access: yesMechanical Engineering Journal
Metallic materials are widely employed due to their exceptional mechanical attributes. Plastic deformation is a common issue that influences both the mechanical and electrical properties, with profound implications for the longevity of engineered ...

Investigation of the Dynamic Recrystallization of FeMnSiCrNi Shape Memory Alloy under Hot Compression Based on Cellular Automaton

open access: yesMetals, 2019
Dynamic recrystallization (DRX) takes place when FeMnSiCrNi shape memory alloy (SMA) is subjected to compression deformation at high temperatures. Cellular automaton (CA) simulation was used for revealing the DRX mechanism of FeMnSiCrNi SMA by predicting

Modelling of dislocation generation and interaction during high-speed deformation of metals

open access: yes, 2000
Recent experiments by Kiritani et al. have revealed a surprisingly high rate of vacancy production during high-speed deformation of thin foils of fcc metals. Virtually no dislocations are seen after the deformation.

Sheared Solid Materials

open access: yes, 2004
We present a time-dependent Ginzburg-Landau model of nonlinear elasticity in solid materials. We assume that the elastic energy density is a periodic function of the shear and tetragonal strains owing to the underlying lattice structure.

Stress of a Spatially Uniform Dislocation Density Field [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Elasticity, 2019
It can be shown that the stress produced by a spatially uniform dislocation density field in a body comprising a linear elastic material under no loads vanishes. We prove that the same result does not hold in general in the geometrically nonlinear case.

Packaging of Macroscopic Material Payloads: Needs, Challenges, Concepts, and Future Directions

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This review introduces a unified framework that decomposes any macroscopic packaging system into the payload, packaging material, and packaging strategy and combines them into a conceptual packaging equation: packaging strategy = payload + packaging material.

Effects of pre-strain on hydrogen-induced stress corrosion cracking behavior of Q345R steel in hydrofluoric acid vapor environment

open access: yesCorrosion Communications
This study investigates microstructure, hydrogen diffusion properties, and stress corrosion cracking (SCC) behavior of Q345R steel subject to pre-applied strains of 1 %, 3 %, and 5 %.

First-principles calculation of H vibrational excitations at a dislocation core of Pd

open access: yes, 2010
Palladium is an ideal system for understanding the behavior of hydrogen in metals. In Pd, H is located both in octahedral sites and in dislocation cores, which act as nanoscale H traps and form Cottrell atmospheres.

Investigation of Laser Ablation and Brush Pre‐Treatments for AlCu Cold Roll Bonding in Oxygen‐Free Conditions

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
It is shown that laser ablation pretreatment under oxygen‐free conditions enables copper–aluminium bonding at significantly lower deformation degrees and improved properties compared to mechanical brushing. Laser ablation further increases interface contact area and induces favourable residual stress states and microstructural compatibility ...
