Atomistic Kinetics of Dislocation-Mediated Grain Growth in Monolayer MoS2. [PDF]
Atomic‐resolution in‐situ heating microscopy directly visualizes dislocation‐mediated grain boundary migration and grain growth in monolayer MoS2. Mobile grain boundaries migrate through collective motion of Mo 5|7 dislocations, whereas S 5|7 defects remain largely immobile.

A 3D-Printed SFE-Graded Alloy Mitigates Cryogenic Discontinuous Plastic Flow and Hydrogen Embrittlement. [PDF]
A novel strategy features gradient composition and stacking fault energy‐tuned (CoCrMn)100‐2xFexNix fabricated via in situ alloying additive manufacturing. This design circumvents cryogenic discontinuous plastic flow and hydrogen embrittlement of metallic materials under quasi‐static loading and hydrogen‐rich environment relevant to lunar polar ...

A robust approach to parameterize dislocation glide energy barriers in FCC metals and alloys [PDF]
The mechanical response of metallic materials is controlled by multiple deformation mechanisms that coexist across scales. Dislocation glide is one such process that occurs after bypassing obstacles. In macroscopic well-annealed single-phase metals, weak

Relationships between glide efficiency and swimmers' size and shape characteristics. [PDF]
Glide efficiency, the ability of a body to minimize deceleration over the glide, can change with variations in the body's size and shape. The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationships between glide efficiency and the size and shape ...

Experimentelle Verformung von natürlichen Quarzeinkristallen : Einfluss der Wasserneuverteilung auf die Deformation und mikrostrukturelle Untersuchungen [PDF]
Quartz is one of the common minerals present in the Earth’s crust that controls its rheology and has a simple chemical composition. There is a lot of data available for quartz, which makes it one of the best studied minerals in nature as well as in ...

The size effect on mechanical properties of hcp/hcp multilayer has been short of understanding hitherto. In this study, we prepared Magnesium/Titanium (Mg/Ti) multilayers with various individual layer thicknesses ( h = 50, 100, 150, 200 nm) by magnetron ...

Deformation of feldspar at greenschist facies conditions – the record of mylonitic pegmatites from the Pfunderer Mountains, Eastern Alps [PDF]
Deformation microstructures of albitic plagioclase and K-feldspar were investigated in mylonitic pegmatites from the Austroalpine basement south of the western Tauern Window by polarized light microscopy, electron microscopy and electron backscatter ...

Improved Deformability of Co‐Free Medium Entropy Oxides by Controlled Entropy Destabilization [PDF]
Controlled entropy destabilization activates defect‐mediated plasticity in Co‐free (CuMgNiZn)O by promoting pre‐existing Cu‐rich secondary phases that serve as defect sources. Temperature‐dependent dislocation activity evolves from limited motion at room temperature to extensive glide and stacking‐fault formation at 600 °C, enabling improved plasticity

Strain hardening recovery mediated by coherent precipitates in lightweight steel
We investigated the effect of κ-carbide precipitates on the strain hardening behavior of aged Fe–Mn-Al-C alloys by microstructure analysis. The κ-carbides-strengthened Fe–Mn-Al-C alloys exhibited a superior strength-ductility balance enabled by the ...
