In Situ Copper Electroplating Turns Material Extrusion 3D Printers Into Metal–Polymer Hybrid Fabricators

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
An in situ electroplating approach for MEX 3D printing is proposed, enabling copper deposition during the fabrication of conductive polymers. The method combines a printer‐integrated plating head, ML‐based g‐code control, and stop‐and‐go printing, achieving near‐bulk copper conductivity and enabling fully embedded, assembly‐free electronic components ...

Nanocrystal Quality–Controlled Scintillation in Porous YAG:Ce Aerogels

open access: yesAdvanced Optical Materials, EarlyView.
High‐temperature thermal treatment of YAG:Ce nanoscintillator aerogels increases light yield under ionizing radiation by up to eightfold without affecting timing performance. Additionally, low‐temperature atmospheric treatments reversibly modify the cerium oxidation state, revealing strong defect sensitivity and offering new strategies to optimize ...

Dismantling

open access: yes, 2016
Preconceptions have been defined as being ideas formed in advance before one can possibly know or form a reliable opinion. The limiting influence of preconceptions is summarized in a variety of phrases such as: to a hammer, everything looks like a nail; we do not see things as they are, we see them as we are; believing is seeing.

Dismantling DivSufSort

open access: yes, 2017
We give the first concise description of the fastest known suffix sorting algorithm in main memory, the DivSufSort by Yuta Mori. We then present an extension that also computes the LCP-array, which is competitive with the fastest known LCP-array construction algorithm.

Degradable Magnetic Composites from Recycled NdFeB Magnets for Soft Actuation and Sensing

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
This work presents a degradable soft magnetic composite made from recycled NdFeB particles embedded in a gelatin‐based organogel. The material is processed into magnetic sensors and soft robotic components, which can later be dissolved in a green solvent to recover NdFeB magnetic particles.

Multiphoton‐Printed Microrobotic Arrays Powered by Discrete, Monolithically Integrated Hydrogel Actuators

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
Functional surfaces are investigated as a foundation for reconfigurable microscale systems with sensing and actuation capabilities. Advances in additive manufacturing enable our development of planar arrays of hybrid‐material, compliant microdevices that convert environmental stimuli into programmed motion and visual responses.
