Dispersive limits in the homogenization of the wave equation [PDF]
The author studies a scalar wave equation (the Klein-Gordon equation) with a large potential in a periodic medium. The period is supposed of order \(\varepsilon\) and the potential is of order \(\varepsilon^{-2}\). The homogenized limit depends on the sign of the first cell eingenvalue \(\lambda_1\).

Estimating and Mapping Ecological Processes Influencing Microbial Community Assembly
Ecological community assembly is governed by a combination of (i) selection resulting from among-taxa differences in performance; (ii) dispersal resulting from organismal movement; and (iii) ecological drift resulting from stochastic changes in ...

Seed dispersal and spatial pattern in tropical trees. [PDF]
Theories of tropical tree diversity emphasize dispersal limitation as a potential mechanism for separating species in space and reducing competitive exclusion.

Extracellular Proteins Limit the Dispersal of Biogenic Nanoparticles [PDF]
High–spatial-resolution secondary ion microprobe spectrometry, synchrotron radiation–based Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy, and polyacrylamide gel analysis demonstrated the intimate association of proteins with spheroidal aggregates of biogenic zinc sulfide nanocrystals, an example of extracellular biomineralization.

Strong spatial influence on colonization rates in a pioneer zooplankton metacommunity. [PDF]
The magnitude of community-wide dispersal is central to metacommunity models, yet dispersal is notoriously difficult to quantify in passive and cryptic dispersers such as many freshwater invertebrates.

Fundamental limitations of dispersion mitigation filters
We investigate the fundamental limitations of dispersion mitigation filters. By analyzing the dispersion compensating process from basic principles, we demonstrate how a digital filter can mitigate arbitrarily weak dispersion without oversampling. We calculate the maximum distance the signal can pass with and without dispersion compensation, beyond ...

Dispersal and seed limitation affect diversity and productivity of montane grasslands
So far, seed limitation as a local process, and dispersal limitation as a regional process have been largely neglected in biodiversity-ecosystem functioning research. However, these processes can influence both local plant species diversity and ecosystem

Population dynamics of a long-lived alpine plant with sexual and clonal reproduction [PDF]
This thesis focuses on the demography, reproduction, and pre-dispersal seed predation of the alpine clonal plant Geum reptans. In chapter 2, I studied the population dynamics of G.

Acoustic Propagation in Dispersions in the Long Wavelength Limit [PDF]
The problem of scattering of ultrasound by particles in the long wavelength limit has a well-established solution in terms of Rayleigh expansions of the scattered fields. However, this solution is ill-conditioned numerically, and recent work has attempted to identify an alternative method.
