Dispersion of the nonlinear refractive index in sapphire

Optics Letters, 2004
The nonlinear refractive index, n2, of sapphire was experimentally measured in the 550-1550-nm wavelength range by use of a picosecond Z-scan technique. It was found that in this spectral region the value of n2 decreases monotonically from approximately 3.3 x 10(-16) to approximately 2.8 x 10(-16) cm2/W.

Index of Biotal Dispersity

Ecology, 1957
Пространственные взаимоотношения живых организмов анализировались в биологи с акцентом либо на их географических, либо их физиологических аспектах. Эти две области исследования известны как биогеография и экология, хотя существуют разногласия в их определении и сфере применения.

The index of dispersion

2010
The index of dispersion is a statistic commonly used to detect departures from randomness of count data. Under the hypothesis of randomness, the true distribution of this statistic is unknown. The accuracy of large sample approximations is assessed by a Monte Carlo simulation.

Dispersion index of topographic surfaces

Geomorphology, 2012
Abstract The dispersion index ( d σ ) of topography is introduced. This index is a geomorphic parameter which characterizes each point of topography with respect to the stability/instability of the steepest descent path (SDP) originating from it.

The sampling distribution of the index of dispersion

Communications in Statistics - Theory and Methods, 1994
The sampling distribution of the index of dispersion is investigated under each of three distributions for the quadrat counts, namely the Poisson, negative binomial and binomial distributions. Approximations to the sampling distributions are constructed and are evaluated using a computer simulation study.

Inflation, indexation, and wage dispersion

Economics Letters, 1987
Abstract This study provides a theory of indexation to reconcile empirical findings that unanticipated inflation raises the dispersion of price changes among subaggregates while it lowers that of wage changes. Evidence on the relation between inflation and the dispersion of wage changes in Israel is presented to buttress the arguments.

On the dispersion index of a Markovian molecular clock

Mathematical Biosciences, 2001
The number of nucleotide substitutions accumulated in a gene or in a lineage is an important random variable in the study of molecular evolution. Of particular interest is the ratio of the variance to the mean of that random variable, often known as the dispersion index. Because nucleotide substitution is most commonly modeled by a continuous-time four-

Tunability of the Refractive Index of Gold Nanoparticle Dispersions

Nano Letters, 2007
Alkanethiol-capped gold nanoparticles dispersed in n-dodecane were studied by spectroscopic ellipsometry and were modeled using Mie scattering theory. The refractive index in the visible and near-infrared depended on the volume fraction of gold nanoparticles, in good agreement with the theoretical expectation that such dispersed plasmonic nanoparticles

Minimal dispersion refractive index profiles

Applied Optics, 1979
The analogy between optics and quantum mechanics is exploited by considering a 2-D quantum system whose Schroedinger equation is closely related to the wave equation for light propagation in an optical fiber. From this viewpoint, Marcatili's condition for minimal-dispersion-refractive-index profiles, and the Olshansky- Keck formula for rms pulse ...
