Characterisation of crack tip fields under non-uniform fatigue loading

open access: yesFracture and Structural Integrity, 2013
The paper analyses previously reported work, which uses digital image correlation to measure fatigue crack closure. As well as determining crack opening loads, the information on crack shape may be used to estimate the stress intensity factor, as well as

Bridge Dynamic Displacement Monitoring Using Geodetic Measurement

open access: yesBulletin of University of Agricultural Sciences and Veterinary Medicine Cluj-Napoca: Horticulture, 2019
The paper analyzes the possibility to define a dynamic model associated to a bridge using the results of geodetic measurements made for displacement monitoring using modern calculation models.

Single-axis combined shearography and digital speckle photography instrument for full surface strain characterization [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
Full characterization of the surface strain requires the measurement of six displacement gradient components of the surface strain tensor. The out-of-plane displacement gradient component may be directly measured using the full-field speckle ...

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

Thermo-Elastic Structural Analysis of a Machine Tool Using a Multi-Channel Absolute Laser Interferometer

open access: yesJournal of Machine Engineering, 2020
One of the main errors in the machining accuracy of machine tools is the displacement through thermal induced deformation. Modern design and construction methods aim to optimize the heat flow in the machine to achieve minimum displacement.

An Improved Large-Field Microscopic Speckle Interferometry System for Dynamic Displacement Measurement of MEMS

open access: yesPhotonics, 2021
The traditional microscopic speckle interferometer has limited applications in engineering due to its small field of view. In this paper, we propose a large-field microscopic speckle interferometer which embeds two doublet lens groups in the improved ...

Hyperosmotic stress induces PARP1‐mediated HPF1‐dependent mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Sorbitol‐induced hyperosmotic stress rapidly induces reversible mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation (MARylation) on PARP1 without the signs of genotoxic signaling. We show that PARP1 autoMARylation is HPF1 dependent and forms hydroxylamine‐resistant O‐glycosidic linkages.

Light and Displacement Compensation-Based iPPG for Heart-Rate Measurement in Complex Detection Conditions

open access: yesSensors
A light and displacement-compensation-based iPPG algorithm is proposed in this paper for heart-rate measurement in complex detection conditions. Two compensation sub-algorithms, including light compensation and displacement compensation, are designed and

Design of Double-Layer Electrically Extremely Small-Size Displacement Sensor

open access: yesSensors, 2021
In this paper, a displacement sensor with an electrically extremely small size and high sensitivity is proposed based on an elaborately designed metamaterial element, i.e., coupled split-ring resonators (SRRs).
