Revealing the structure of land plant photosystem II: the journey from negative‐stain EM to cryo‐EM

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Advances in cryo‐EM have revealed the detailed structure of Photosystem II, a key protein complex driving photosynthesis. This review traces the journey from early low‐resolution images to high‐resolution models, highlighting how these discoveries deepen our understanding of light harvesting and energy conversion in plants.

Deformation Effect Analysis of Shield Tunnel Closely Side-passing Viaduct Pile Foundation

open access: yesChengshi guidao jiaotong yanjiu
Objective Shield tunneling may cause displacement and deformation of the nearby viaduct foundation and reduce its bearing capacity. Therefore, the deformation effect caused by shield tunnel closely side-passing viaduct foundation is studied based on an ...

In situ molecular organization and heterogeneity of the Legionella Dot/Icm T4SS

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We present a nearly complete in situ model of the Legionella Dot/Icm type IV secretion system, revealing its central secretion channel and identifying new components. Using cryo‐electron tomography with AI‐based modeling, our work highlights the structure, variability, and mechanism of this complex nanomachine, advancing understanding of bacterial ...

Sustainable slow maintained pile load test [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Slow maintained load test is widely used by contractors in Malaysia to ensure the driven pile could accommodate the design load of the structure. Slow maintained load test is a test to determine load-settlement curve and pile capacity for a period of ...

Cell wall target fragment discovery using a low‐cost, minimal fragment library

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
LoCoFrag100 is a fragment library made up of 100 different compounds. Similarity between the fragments is minimized and 10 different fragments are mixed into a single cocktail, which is soaked to protein crystals. These crystals are analysed by X‐ray crystallography, revealing the binding modes of the bound fragment ligands.

Centrifuge modeling of anti-slide piles with anchored bolt-reinforced slopes under drawdown conditions

open access: yesYantu gongcheng xuebao, 2023
The anti-slide pile with anchored bolt is an effective structure for reinforcing side slopes. The centrifugal model tests are conducted to compare the unreinforced slope with the anchor-pile-reinforced one under drawdown conditions.

Numerical evaluation of the pipe-pile buckling during vibratory driving in sand [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
The buckling of steel pipe piles during vibratory driving is numerically studied using the Multi-Material Arbitrary Lagrangian-Eulerian (MMALE) method. This method handles the large soil deformations that occur during pile driving and other geotechnical ...

Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.

Hyperosmotic stress induces PARP1‐mediated HPF1‐dependent mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Sorbitol‐induced hyperosmotic stress rapidly induces reversible mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation (MARylation) on PARP1 without the signs of genotoxic signaling. We show that PARP1 autoMARylation is HPF1 dependent and forms hydroxylamine‐resistant O‐glycosidic linkages.

Influence of Pile Spacing on the Compressive Bearing Performance of CEP Groups

open access: yesBuildings
Pile spacing is an important factor affecting the bearing capacity of concrete expansion pile (CEP) groups. In this study, a pile group was simulated and analyzed using ANSYS software R19.0.
