Effect of smoking on theophylline disposition
Clinical Pharmacology & Therapeutics, 1976The pharmacokinetics of theophylline were examined in a group of nonsmokers and in heavy smokers (1 to 2 packs/day) before and 3 to 4 mo after cessation of cigarette smoking. The half‐life of theophylline in smokers averaged 4.3 (SD = 1.4) hr, significantly shorter than the mean value in nonsmokers (7.0, SD = 1.7 hr).

Effect of fluconazole on the disposition of phenytoin
Clinical Pharmacology and Therapeutics, 1991In a randomized, placebo-controlled, parallel study, phenytoin was given in the presence and absence of fluconazole. Twenty healthy male subjects received phenytoin, 200 mg orally, on study days 1 to 3 and 18 to 20 and 250 mg intravenously on study days 4 and 21.

The Effect of Probenecid on Nafcillin Disposition
The Journal of Clinical Pharmacology, 1982Abstract: Five normal male volunteers participated in an open crossover study designed to examine the disposition of nafcillin given intravenously with and without probenecid. Each subject received two 500 mg iv doses of sodium nafcillin seven days apart, one dose without probenecid and another dose during oral probenecid administration of 1.0 Gm at ...

Aging effects on drug disposition and effect
Geriatric Nephrology and Urology, 1999Drug therapy in older individuals has generally been summarized in the phrase "start low and go slow". As better understanding of the effects and disposition of drugs in the aged has evolved, the concept of "therapeutic burden" which encompasses the number of concurrent medications as well as the dose of medications administered has assumed ...

Effect of phenobarbital on theophylline disposition
Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology, 1978The effect of chronic phenobarbital administration on the pharmacokinetics of theophylline was studied in 6 healthy, nonsmoking adults. Subject compliance was verified by the determination of plasma phenobarbital levels. Following four weeks of phenobarbital administration, all six subjects showed a resultant increase in serum clearance varying from 11%

Effect of Ranitidine on Chloroquine Disposition
Drug Intelligence & Clinical Pharmacy, 1987Ten healthy, male volunteers (aged 19–27 yr; weight 62–67 kg) were randomly distributed into control and test groups of five subjects each in a controlled study on the effect of ranitidine on chloroquine disposition. The control group subjects received two tablets of chloroquine sulfate (300-mg base) only.

Effect of ethanol on the disposition of paraquat
Toxicology Letters, 1991Rabbits that received paraquat (200 mg/kg) and ethanol (1.0-3.8 g/kg) by gavage resulted in shorter median survival times and higher mortality rates than those dosed with paraquat alone. Plasma paraquat levels in rabbits dosed with ethanol before, after and concurrently with ingestion of paraquat were significantly higher when compared with animals ...

Effect of alcohol on propylthiouracil disposition
Clinical Pharmacology and Therapeutics, 1983We examined the effect of ethanol on propylthiouracil (PTU) disposition in normal subjects and a rabbit. The drug is metabolized by conjugation. In six normal subjects 19.2 gm oral ethanol, taken either with or two hr after 300 mg PTU, did not change maximum concentration, time to maximum concentration, or total or free AUC of PTU.

Effect of pentobarbital on the disposition of alprenolol
Clinical Pharmacology & Therapeutics, 1977Alprenolol was administered orally and intravenously to 5 healthy subjects before and after IO to 14 daily doses of 0.1 gm pentobarbital. The area under the plasma concentration time curve after an oral 200‐mg dose decreased from 706 ± 277 to 154 ± 48 ng/ml .

Effect of quinolones on caffeine disposition
Clinical Pharmacology and Therapeutics, 1989Six healthy volunteers received a single caffeine dose after pretreatment with norfloxacin, pipemidic acid, or placebo in a crossover, randomized, single-blind clinical trial. Quinolones altered the pharmacokinetics of caffeine, with a significant increase in the AUCs and a decrease in plasma clearance. The elimination half-life increased significantly
