A dissimilarity index of multidimensional inequality of opportunity [PDF]

open access: yesThe Journal of Economic Inequality, 2010
A recent literature on inequality of opportunity offers quantitative tools for comparisons and measurement based on stochastic dominance criteria and traditional inequality indices. In this paper I suggest an additional way of assessing inequality of opportunity with two indices of dissimilarity across distributions.

Adaptive Dissimilarity Index for Gene Expression Profiles Classification [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
DNA microarray technology allows to monitor simultaneously the expression levels of thousands of genes during important biological processes and across collections of related experiments. Clustering and classification techniques have proved to be helpful to understand gene function, gene regulation, and cellular processes.

Plant size inequality: How to analyse competing spatial dissimilarity Indices? [PDF]

open access: yesEcological Indicators
Worldwide biodiversity loss is perceived as a major threat and is likely to be enforced by ongoing climate change. Continued monitoring of biodiversity can assist in compensating for decreasing biodiversity by goal-oriented conservation management. Plant

A Robust Scheme for Coherency Detection in Power Systems

open access: yesJurnal Nasional Teknik Elektro, 2021
This paper presents an approach for online generator coherency identification based on windowed dynamic time warping (DTW). Generator rotor speed deviations measured by phasor measurement units (PMUs) are used as input data to compute a DTW ...

Towards a unifying framework for diversity and dissimilarity coefficients

open access: yesEcological Indicators, 2021
Diversity and dissimilarity within and between species assemblages have now been studied for more than half a century by community ecologists in relation to their connections with ecosystem functioning.

The Relationship between Urban Diversity and Residential Segregation

open access: yesUrban Science, 2022

The effect modification of greenspace and impervious surface on the heat-mortality association: Differences by the dissimilarity index. [PDF]

open access: yesSci Total Environ, 2023
Recent studies have shown that heat-mortality risk differs by level of greenspace and impervious surface. However, these studies do not consider both green spaces and impervious surfaces simultaneously, and further did not fully consider community- and ...

Inactive Youth in Sub-Saharan Africa: Does Inequality of Opportunity Matter?

open access: yesEconomies, 2022
The present study seeks to find out how gender, age, area of living, parent background in terms of educational level and occupation determine the probability of youth to be out of the labour market in six Sub-Saharan Africa countries.
