Flow Field Analysis of Francis Turbine Draft Tube using POD at Design and Part Load Operating Conditions [PDF]
The hydraulic turbines, especially Francis turbines, frequently run at part load (PL) conditions to meet the dynamic energy needs. The flow field at the runner exit changes significantly with a change in the operating point.

Structural development and energy dissipation in simulated silicon apices
In this paper we examine the stability of silicon tip apices by using density functional theory (DFT) calculations. We find that some tip structures - modelled as small, simple clusters - show variations in stability during manipulation dependent on ...

Blood Coagulation Testing Smartphone Platform Using Quartz Crystal Microbalance Dissipation Method
Blood coagulation function monitoring is important for people who are receiving anticoagulation treatment and a portable device is needed by these patients for blood coagulation self-testing. In this paper, a novel smartphone based blood coagulation test

Rail hidden damage detection based on the modal curvature differences method
The rail hidden damage includes rail bottom and rail jaw cracks, which cannot be easily detected during the early development stage, and pose a significant danger and risk of rail-breaking accidents. This paper proposed an effective method to detect rail

Dissipation of some Pesticide Residues in Tomato (Lucopersicon esculentum L.) Fruits Using QuECHERS Methodology under the Egyptian Field Conditions [PDF]
The residual levels of abamectin, spinosad, and acetamipride were determined by HPLC-DAD moreover, penconazole, diniconazole and fipronil determined by using GC-ECD in tomato fruit under field conditions using QuEChERS methodology (Quick, Easy, Cheap ...

We present robust protocols for the preparation of supported lipid bilayers (SLBs) incorporating either Salmonella smooth LPS or outer membrane vesicles (OMVs). We use a combination of quartz crystal microbalance with dissipation (QCM‐D) and fluorescence microscopy to both characterize the SLBs of various compositions and to probe their interactions ...

This article proposes a convergent adaptive observer for a damped wave PDE and an infinite‐dimensional ODE coupled in cascade using sampled‐in‐space ODE state measurements. The proposed observer estimates the distributed states of the PDE and ODE along with unknown PDE parameters and spatial input.

A numerical–experimental framework is developed for characterizing multi‐matrix fiber‐reinforced polymers (MM‐FRPs) combining epoxy and polyurethane matrices. Harmonic bending tests are integrated with finite element model updating (FEMU) to simultaneously identify elastic and viscoelastic material parameters.

Decoherence without dissipation [PDF]
That decoherence can take place in the presence of energy conservation seems to be a poorly known fact. That lack of knowledge has, for example, bedevilled the discussion of the ‘black hole information’ problem. I present a simple model that illustrates such energy-free decoherence.
