Functional Neurological Disorder Following COVID-19: Results From a Large International Electronic Health Record Database. [PDF]

open access: yesEur J Neurol
Compared with other respiratory tract infections, the incidence of functional neurological disorder following COVID‐19 is increased, with the risk higher in individuals with a more severe disease course. Pre‐existing medical, psychiatric and neurological conditions are common in those with new‐onset functional neurological disorder following COVID‐19 ...

About Perfluoropolyhedranes, Their Electron‐Accepting Ability and Questionable Supramolecular Hosting Capacity

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, Volume 135, Issue 37, September 11, 2023., 2023
Symmetry infers perfection and perennity, order, and harmony. Synthesizing perfluoropolyhedranes, a serious challenge, greatly enhances polyhedrane electron affinity, providing a unique opportunity for hosting an extra electron inside a molecular frame.

Dissociative Disorder in the Iranian Culture: The Lawless Utopia

open access: yesIranian Journal of Psychiatry, 2021
Epidemiologic and etiological studies of dissociative disorders are a challenging area in psychiatry. These challenges become more complex when noting that the existing theories cannot explain the differences observed in certain cases; for example ...

An exploration of the relationship between voices, dissociation, and post‐traumatic stress disorder symptoms

open access: yesPsychology and Psychotherapy: Theory, Research and Practice, Volume 96, Issue 4, Page 1015-1028, December 2023., 2023
Abstract Objectives Extensive research has shown voice hearing to be associated with symptoms of Post‐Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and dissociation. However, most studies have adopted a quantitative design, using cross‐sectional data sampling methods, precluding temporal relationships between variables from being defined. Design Using a qualitative

A patient with distinct dissociative and hallucinatory fugues [PDF]

open access: yesBMJ Case Reports, 2012
A 62-year-old man presented with a history suggesting both dissociative fugue and a distinct fugue-like hallucination. The dissociative fugues included unplanned travel, loss of personal identity, inability to recall his past and amnesia for the fugue interval.

Putting Galileo in his Place: Geographical Origins and the Rhetoric of Scholarly Credibility☆

open access: yesRenaissance Studies, Volume 37, Issue 4, Page 481-497, September 2023., 2023
Abstract While in theory frowned upon, comments on the (regional) provenance of scholars frequently found their way into the scholarly debates of the Republic of Letters. This article uses early responses to Galileo Galilei's Sidereus Nuncius as a case study to explore various broader assumptions and associations underlying the use of such comments on ...

Ensheathing glia promote increased lifespan and healthy brain aging

open access: yesAging Cell, Volume 22, Issue 5, May 2023., 2023
Ensheathing glia decrease in number during Drosophila melanogaster aging, with dysregulated expression of genes involved in lipid metabolism and apoptosis. Inhibition of apoptosis in ensheathing glia extended lifespan, improved climbing ability of aged flies, and prevented amyloid‐beta accumulation in a fly model of Alzheimer's disease.

Hybrid atmospheric pressure plasma generation and DC electrospray aerosolization of plasma‐activated water for surface pathogen disinfection

open access: yesPlasma Processes and Polymers, Volume 20, Issue 3, March 2023., 2023
A hybrid system involving the production of atmospheric pressure plasma and DC electrospray aerosolization of plasma‐activated water. Atmospheric pressure plasma generated along the electrospray cone‐jet can further enhance the plasma‐activation of the water sample, that is, up to a 67% increase in hydrogen peroxide.

Domain‐specific and domain‐general neural network engagement during human–robot interactions

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Neuroscience, Volume 56, Issue 10, Page 5902-5916, November 2022., 2022
In this study, whole‐brain, region‐of‐interest and functional connectivity analyses are used to test similarities and dissimilarities in neural network engagement while participants conversed with another person or a robot. Assessing social, non‐social, domain‐specific and domain‐general networks, results indicate only subtle differences in response ...
