In vitro models of cancer‐associated fibroblast heterogeneity uncover subtype‐specific effects of CRISPR perturbations

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Development of therapies targeting cancer‐associated fibroblasts (CAFs) necessitates preclinical model systems that faithfully represent CAF–tumor biology. We established an in vitro coculture system of patient‐derived pancreatic CAFs and tumor cell lines and demonstrated its recapitulation of primary CAF–tumor biology with single‐cell transcriptomics ...

Signed distance function implicit geologic modeling

open access: yesREM: International Engineering Journal
Prior to every geostatistical estimation or simulation study there is a need for delimiting the geologic domains of the deposit, which is traditionally done manually by a geomodeler in a laborious, time consuming and subjective process.

The geography of banking power: role of function distance

open access: yesPSL Quarterly Review, 2012
In this paper we analyse the new geography of the Italian banking system on the basis of the integration pressures of recent years. The analysis of the evolution of the banking system is focused on the concept of distance.

Effect of chemotherapy on passenger mutations in metastatic colorectal cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Changes in passenger mutation load and predicted immunotherapy response after chemotherapy treatment. Tumor cells rich with passenger mutations have increased sensitivity to chemotherapy. Correlation of passenger mutations with neoantigen load suggests highly mutated clones promote a more effective response to immunotherapy, and therefore, first‐line ...

Methylation biomarkers can distinguish pleural mesothelioma from healthy pleura and other pleural pathologies

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We developed and validated a DNA methylation–based biomarker panel to distinguish pleural mesothelioma from other pleural conditions. Using the IMPRESS technology, we translated this panel into a clinically applicable assay. The resulting two classifier models demonstrated excellent performance, achieving high AUC values and strong diagnostic accuracy.

Distance-Based Relevance Function for Imbalanced Regression

open access: yesStats
Imbalanced regression poses a significant challenge in real-world prediction tasks, where rare target values are prone to overfitting during model training. To address this, prior research has employed relevance functions to quantify the rarity of target

The Bifixation Field as a Function of Viewing Distance

open access: yesJournal of Ophthalmology, 2014
Hering reported that the area over which he could bifixate a target was smaller at near convergence distances than far convergence distances and predicted that in extreme horizontal gaze positions, the temporally directed eye lags behind the nasally ...

Generalized Quadratic Revenue Functions [PDF]

open access: yes
In this paper we focus on specification of revenue functions in their dual price space. We consider two distance functions, both dual to the revenue function: Shephard output distance function and the directional output distance function, both in price ...

Strength through diversity: how cancers thrive when clones cooperate

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Intratumor heterogeneity can offer direct benefits to the tumor through cooperation between different clones. In this review, Kuiken et al. discuss existing evidence for clonal cooperativity to identify overarching principles, and highlight how novel technological developments could address remaining open questions.

Remarks on the hardy inequality

open access: yesJournal of Inequalities and Applications, 1997
Let be an open subset of with finite Lebesgue -measure, let be the distance from to the boundary of , and let . We give a simple direct proof that if satisfies the plumpness condition of Martio and Väisälä [10], then the inequality ...
