Building a distance ladder with population II distance indicators

(TRGB) stars are found in all types of galaxies and are an interesting alternative for the local distance ladder towards Supernovae host galaxies. In particular, the RR Lyrae stars can be used to robustly test the accuracy of other local distance indicators within the Local Group.

Long‐term hippocampal alterations and cognitive impairment in a murine model of surgical sepsis

Using a mouse model of surgical sepsis, we tested long‐term memory and analyzed the transcriptome of single cells isolated from the hippocampus. Survivor mice showed worse memory, loss of certain brain cell subpopulations, and abnormal immune cell activity—suggesting that post‐sepsis brain alterations may be linked to cognitive deficits.

Refinement of amino‐acid conformation vs. difference density maps in time‐resolved serial femtosecond crystallography data analysis

Early‐life high‐fat diet exposure increases Achilles tendon stiffness and induces transcriptomic alterations

FEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Early‐life exposure to a high‐fat diet altered intact Achilles tendons in rat offspring, making them thinner, stiffer, and molecularly distinct even without injury. These findings suggest that developmental high‐fat diet exposure may impair tendon quality and increase susceptibility to mechanical overload or tendon injury later in life.
