Evaluating User Perception of Speech Recognition System Quality with Semantic Distance Metric [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2021
Measuring automatic speech recognition (ASR) system quality is critical for creating user-satisfying voice-driven applications. Word Error Rate (WER) has been traditionally used to evaluate ASR system quality; however, it sometimes correlates poorly with user perception/judgement of transcription quality.

Barriers and Facilitators for Implementing Resilience Coaching for Youth With Chronic Musculoskeletal Pain: Pediatric Rheumatologists’ Perspectives

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, EarlyView.
Objective Promoting Resilience in Stress Management (PRISM) is a resilience coaching program designed for adolescents with chronic illness. We aimed to examine the perceived feasibility, acceptability, and appropriateness of PRISM among pediatric rheumatologists treating adolescents with chronic musculoskeletal pain and obtain recommendations for ...

A predictive processing model of perception and action for self-other distinction [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
During interaction with others, we perceive and produce social actions in close temporal distance or even simultaneously. It has been argued that the motor system is involved in perception and action, playing a fundamental role in the handling of actions produced by oneself and by others.

Semantic Proximity Alignment: Towards Human Perception-consistent Audio Tagging by Aligning with Label Text Description [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2023
Most audio tagging models are trained with one-hot labels as supervised information. However, one-hot labels treat all sound events equally, ignoring the semantic hierarchy and proximity relationships between sound events. In contrast, the event descriptions contains richer information, describing the distance between different sound events with ...

Perception Evaluation -- A new solar image quality metric based on the multi-fractal property of texture features [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Next-generation ground-based solar observations require good image quality metrics for post-facto processing techniques. Based on the assumption that texture features in solar images are multi-fractal which can be extracted by a trained deep neural network as feature maps, a new reduced-reference objective image quality metric, the perception ...

COVID-19 risk-perception in long-distance travel [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2023
Long-distance travel has seen little attention in the past, largely due its sporadic nature. A single long-distance trip can amount to a distance equivalent to a year's worth of commute trips, resulting in a similar, if not worse, environmental footprint. Understanding travellers' behaviour is thus just as relevant for such trips.

A Case‐Based Reasoning Approach to Model Manufacturing Constraints for Impact Extrusion

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A hybrid modeling approach is presented that combines constraint‐based process modeling and case‐based reasoning. The model formalizes manufacturing constraints and integrates simulation data to model complex manufacturing processes. The approach supports manufacturability analysis during product design through an adaptive modeling environment.

Effects of Creep in Titanium at Room Temperature during Tensile and Profilometry‐Based Indentation Plastometry Testing

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This article concerns room temperature tensile testing, with a range of (nominal) strain rates, of three titanium alloys. Stress–strain curves are analyzed to obtain creep characteristics. Profilometry‐based indentation plastometry testing is also covered, using different penetration velocities, and correlations established with tensile data.

Bioresorbable and Wireless Rechargeable Implanted Na‐ion Battery for Temporary Medical Devices

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
An all‐solid‐state bioresorbable Na‐ion battery is developed, composed entirely of bio‐eliminable materials. In vivo and ex vivo tests confirmed harmless disintegration of this implanted battery. Lifetime of the implanted battery can be precisely controlled by adjusting the dissolvable encapsulation layer's thickness.

Physical distancing and the perception of interpersonal distance in the COVID-19 crisis

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2020
In the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, it has been mandated to keep enlarged distances from others. We interviewed 136 German subjects over five weeks from the end of March to the end of April 2020 during the first wave of infections about their preferred
