Verification of a Distillation Column Benchmark
IFAC Proceedings Volumes, 1995Abstract This paper presents the validation of an elaborate model of a semi industrial scale distillation column equipped with an indirect heat pump. The model is derived for ordinary operation within the designed operating window. The paper describes the basis assumptions of the model.

T METHOD FOR DISTILLATION COLUMNS*
Chemical Engineering Communications, 1982The T method is a newly developed one in distillation calculations which belongs to the class of methods which apply a partitioning of the whole system of equations to be solved It is similar in nature to the well known B.P. method or theta method, even if, when compared with them, it shows a higher efficiency in reaching the solution Following the ...

Instability of distillation columns
AIChE Journal, 1994AbstractAs recently recognized, distillation columns, operating with reflux and boilup as independent inputs, may have multiple steady‐state solutions, even in the ideal binary case. Two fundamentally different sources may cause the multiplicity, and in both cases some operating points are found to be unstable.

A Neuromorphic Controller for a Distillation Column
The Fourth International Conference on Control and Automation 2003 ICCA Final Program and Book of Abstracts ICCA-03, 2003This paper investigates the design of a neural network based controller to control the concentration of the overhead and bottom product in the model of a distillation column. Satisfactory computer simulation results of this approach are obtained.

Computers & Chemical Engineering, 1993
Abstract This paper relates to the design of distillation columns. In particular, it relates to the optimisation of a base case design. Column optimisation involves options such as different reflux ratios, pressures, side condensing/reboiling and feed preheating/cooling.

Robust Analysis of Distillation Column Dynamics
IFAC Proceedings Volumes, 1995Abstract The robust stability and performance of a binary distillation column model is analysed using a minimal state space representation. The uncertainty modelling of the column is resulted in an LFT form with a four element diagonal block structure taking into account the dependence between the steady state gains.

Modelling and dynamics of an extractive distillation column
The Canadian Journal of Chemical Engineering, 1983Much of the published research literature on distillation column dynamics and control has been focussed on binary systems or on multicomponent systems in which key components are used to define the operations. This paper presents both non-linear mass and energy balance models and experimental results for an extractive distillation system separating ...

Distillation Column: Review of Major Disturbances
2019 9th IEEE International Conference on Control System, Computing and Engineering (ICCSCE), 2019The continuous increase in the global energy demand obliges the necessity of energy production and its efficient utilization. The energy conservation is a primary concern of every process industry due to the increasing fuel prices. The distillation column is considered as one of the essential energy-intensive unit operations of any chemical and process

Applications of feedforward control to distillation columns
Automatica, 1972The literature abounds with papers on feedforward control of distillation columns. Few of these papers, however, discuss successful commercial applications. They are, for the most part, theoretical developments of various approaches to feedforward control or evaluation of various control models on simulated or laboratory columns.

Model identification for control of a distillation column
IX Latin American Robotics Symposium and IEEE Colombian Conference on Automatic Control, 2011 IEEE, 2011This paper presents the system identification techniques as an alternative to model processes for control purposes. A methodology for obtaining adequate empirical models for distillation columns is presented. This methodology is applied to a benchmark of a distillation column at laboratory scale (Column A).
