Why human connection is the true metric of research success
Human‐centred mentorship can be shaped by mentor attributes, actions, intrinsic drive and career ambition. Drawing on reflections across Singapore and France, as well as workshop insights from FEBS‐IUBMB ENABLE 2024, this article shows that human‐centred mentorship creates the conditions for sustainable growth, well‐being and retention in research ...

A CFD technique for estimating the flow distortion effects on LiDAR measurements when made in complex flow fields [PDF]
The effect of flow distortion on the measurements produced by a LiDAR or SoDAR in close proximity to either complex terrain or a structure creating localised flow distortion is difficult to determine by analytical means.

Kekule-distortion-induced Exciton instability in graphene
Effects of a Kekule distortion on exciton instability in single-layer graphene are discussed. In the framework of quantum electrodynamics the mass of the electron generated dynamically is worked out using a Schwinger-Dyson equation.

Early‐life exposure to a high‐fat diet altered intact Achilles tendons in rat offspring, making them thinner, stiffer, and molecularly distinct even without injury. These findings suggest that developmental high‐fat diet exposure may impair tendon quality and increase susceptibility to mechanical overload or tendon injury later in life.

Random Dictators with a Random Referee: Constant Sample Complexity Mechanisms for Social Choice
We study social choice mechanisms in an implicit utilitarian framework with a metric constraint, where the goal is to minimize \textit{Distortion}, the worst case social cost of an ordinal mechanism relative to underlying cardinal utilities.

RoundMi: A quantitative method to analyze mitochondrial morphology in mitotic cells
RoundMi is a workflow for rapid analysis of mitochondrial morphology in mitotic cells. By combining adaptive preprocessing with automated segmentation and quantification, it enables accurate measurements from single focal plane images, reducing acquisition time and computational demands while remaining compatible with high‐throughput fixed and live ...
