On the Rate-Distortion Performance of Dynamic Bitstream Switching Mechanisms [PDF]
Bitstream switching is an effective way to deal with bandwidth variation in transmitting multimedia over time-varying channels. A number of bitstream switching mechanisms have been proposed to reduce the potential error drift introduced by bitstream switching, often without explicitly taking into account the impact of the switching on the bandwidth and

Early‐life exposure to a high‐fat diet altered intact Achilles tendons in rat offspring, making them thinner, stiffer, and molecularly distinct even without injury. These findings suggest that developmental high‐fat diet exposure may impair tendon quality and increase susceptibility to mechanical overload or tendon injury later in life.

Otoacoustic emission (OAE)-based measurement of the functioning of the human cochlea and the efferent auditory system [PDF]
The discovery of otoacoustic emissions (OAE) has advanced our understanding of cochlear mechanics and the efferent auditory system. OAE are sounds generated withinnormal cochlea either spontaneously or in response to stimulation.

Three-dimensional energy gap and origin of charge-density wave in kagome superconductor KV3Sb5
Kagome metals are interesting for the coexistence of chiral charge density wave and superconductivity. Here, the structural distortion responsible for the charge density wave in KV3Sb5 is investigated by angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy and ...

Distortion product otoacoustic emission generation mechanisms and their dependence on stimulus level and primary frequency ratio [PDF]
In this study, a systematic analysis of the dependence on stimulus level and primary frequency ratio r of the different components of human distortion product otoacoustic emissions has been performed, to check the validity of theoretical models of their ...

Guiding AlphaFold to predict how Munc13‐1 opens Syntaxin‐1
The syntaxin‐1 Habc‐domain (orange), linker (pink) and SNARE motif (yellow) form a closed conformation that binds to Munc18‐1 (violet) and is opened by the Munc13‐1 MUN domain (cyan) to form the SNARE complex that triggers neurotransmitter release.

Nonlinear distortion generation mechanisms in wireless polar transmitters [PDF]
This paper discusses the most important nonlinear distortion generation mechanisms present in modern wireless polar transmitters. It begins by using the spectrum and power efficiency trade-off in wireless communication systems to justify the polar ...

Sampling Rate Distortion [PDF]
Consider a memoryless multiple source with m components of which a (possibly randomized) subset of k ≤ m components are sampled at each time instant and jointly compressed with the objective of reconstructing a prespecified subset of the m components ...
