Conservation of distortion of gravitationally lensed images

open access: yes
We recently hypothesized that a distortion parameter exists such that its signed sum for all images of singular gravitational lensing of a source vanishes identically [K. S. Virbhadra, Phys. Rev. D {\bf 106}, 064038 (2022)].

Spectral and distortion risk measures

open access: yes, 2022
In this thesis we define risk measures as a way of quantifying the risk of an invest- ment and we formulate their essential properties, focusing mainly on coherency. Then we define the notions of admissible spectrum and spectral risk measures.

Additive Manufacturing of Continuous Fibre Reinforced Composites: Process, Characterisation, Modelling, and Sustainability

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Additive manufacturing provides precise control over the placement of continuous fibres within polymer matrices, enabling customised mechanical performance in composite components. This article explores processing strategies, mechanical testing, and modelling approaches for additive manufactured continuous fibre‐reinforced composites.

Phase Field Failure Modeling: Brittle‐Ductile Dual‐Phase Microstructures under Compressive Loading

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The approach by Amor and the approach by Miehe and Zhang for asymmetric damage behavior in the phase field method for fracture are compared regarding their fitness for microcrack‐based failure modeling. The comparison is performed for the case of a dual‐phase microstructure with a brittle and a ductile constituent.

Numerical Sensitivity Analysis of TRIP-Parameter K on Weld Residual Stresses and Weld Distortion

open access: yes, 2016
A combined experimental numerical approach is applied for a sensitivity analysis of the transformation induced plasticity (TRIP)-parameter K on welding residual stresses and welding distortion for the welding of the low-alloyed high-strength S960QOL with

Karl Popper and the Mechanisms of Hydrogen Embrittlement

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Representation of the beginning of loss of ductility rather than embrittlement. Small concentrations of hydrogen in a diffusible form within iron are well‐established to harm the mechanical integrity of steels. There are theories that attempt to explain the pernicious role of hydrogen.

Cosmological Redshift Distortion of Correlation Functions as a Probe of the Density Parameter and the Cosmological Constant

open access: yes, 2007
We propose cosmological redshift-space distortion of correlation functions of galaxies and quasars as a useful probe of both the density parameter\Omega 0 and the cosmological constant 0 .

Zoom dependent lens distortion mathematical models

open access: yes, 2012
We propose new mathematical models to study the variation of lens distortion models when modifying zoom setting in the case of zoom lenses. The new models are based on a polynomial approximation to account for the variation of the radial distortion ...

Multimodal Data‐Driven Microstructure Characterization

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A self‐consistent autonomous workflow for EBSP‐based microstructure segmentation by integrating PCA, GMM clustering, and cNMF with information‐theoretic parameter selection, requiring no user input. An optimal ROI size related to characteristic grain size is identified.

Symbolic Regression and Multi‐Objective Optimization of the Flory–Huggins Interaction Parameter for Hydrogels

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
We develop a data‐driven method to derive the mathematical expressions of the Flory–Huggins interaction parameter χ for the swelling behavior of temperature–responsive hydrogels. Starting from initial assumptions of χ, our workflow combines Bayesian optimization, Flory–Rehner theory, and symbolic regression to generate candidate χ expressions.
