Distributary channels and their impact on sediment dispersal

Marine Geology, 2005
A global analysis of world deltas, with details from a natural and an anthropogenic-influenced delta, demonstrates how distributary channels control the flux of sediment into the coastal ocean. The study addresses the range in the number of distributary channels across world deltas using remote sensing techniques.

Quantitative characteristics of sinuous distributary channels on the Amazon Deep-Sea Fan

Geological Society of America Bulletin, 1987
Morphometric analysis of meandering channels on the middle and lower Amazon Deep-Sea Fan demonstrates that these channels have definite similarities with meandering subaerial rivers. The relationships between meander wavelength and both channel width and radius of meander curvature for fan channels are similar to those observed for large rivers ...

Tidal impact on the division of river discharge over distributary channels in the Mahakam Delta

Ocean Dynamics, 2011
Bifurcations in tidally influenced deltas distribute river discharge over downstream channels, asserting a strong control over terrestrial runoff to the coastal ocean. Whereas the mechanics of river bifurcations is well-understood, junctions in tidal channels have received comparatively little attention in the literature.

Impacts of in‐stream aggregate mining on the distributary channels of the alluvial fans of Tafí valley (Northwest Argentina)

Earth Surface Processes and Landforms, 2021
AbstractIn‐stream mining is a common aggregate mining practice around the world. However, the impacts of such practice are not always taken into account when the mines are established, and the environmental cost of in‐stream aggregate mining is generally not assessed.

Application of multi-seismic attributes analysis in the study of distributary channels

Marine and Petroleum Geology, 2016
Abstract During the exploration of stratigraphic reservoirs, the key to locating these reservoirs is to identify the sandstone distribution. Seismic data can be used to recognize large-scale distributary-channel sedimentary bodies; however, depiction of sedimentary bodies in small distributary channels using traditional interpretation data from ...

The morphology, magnitude and regime of a Carboniferous fluvial-distributary channel

Journal of Sedimentary Research, 1976
Abstract A meandering fluvial-distributary was initiated into the interdistributary bay of a Carboniferous (Yoredale) delta lobe by avulsion. Initiation immediately preceded abandonment of the lobe, and lateral migration of the channel produced a meander belt sandstone in the short period of channel activity.

Characteristics of a Distributary Channel-Levee-Overbank System, Tanqua Karoo

2000
Abstract A complex of distributary channel fills (termed here “distributary channel system”), exposed on the Bloukop farm, shows a complex internal architecture, comprised of seven individual channel fills, levee, and crevasse splay deposits.
