Journal of Sedimentary Research, 2017
Abstract: This study investigates the connection between hydraulic and sediment transport processes and channel and lobe geometry in supercritical submarine fans. The geometry of lobate deposits is typically explored as an interrelationship between different geometric measures, e.g., length versus width or thickness versus area, or ...

Terminal Distributary Channels and Delta Front Architecture of River-Dominated Delta Systems
Journal of Sedimentary Research, 2006Abstract Using modern and ancient examples we show that river-dominated deltas formed in shallow basins have multiple coeval terminal distributary channels at different scales. Sediment dispersion through multiple terminal distributary channels results in an overall lobate shape of the river-dominated delta that is opposite to the ...

Distributary channel tight sandstone reservoir characterization based on attention mechanisms
International Meeting for Applied Geoscience & EnergySeismic impedance inversion is a widely used technique to estimate impedance from seismic data for reservoir characterization. However, conventional inversion methods are always limited in accurately estimating the seismic impedance of complex reservoirs.

Hydromorphology of the Kargalinsky channel – the main distributary system of the Terek river delta
Soil erosion and river channel processesThe main natural factors determining the specifics of the Terek delta channel regime are related to increased sediment runoff and low channel stability. Sediment yield of the Terek is comparable to the largest rivers of Russia – the Ob, Yenisei, Lena, despite the fact that the water runoff is ten times smaller.

Anatomy of Distributary Channel-Fill Deposits in Recent Mud Deltas: ABSTRACT
AAPG Bulletin, 1972Recent distributary channel-fill deposits (of various sizes) were studied in three mud-rich deltas of the Gulf Coast: the Mississippi, the Colorado-Matagorda, and the Trinity. Although the deltas differ markedly in size, they show similar geomorphology, depositional processes, and patterns of sand accumulation. Data were obtained from 2 major sources: (

Chinese Journal of Oceanology and Limnology, 2010
The water and sediment discharge regulation (WSDR) project, which has been performed since 2002 before flood season every year, is of great significance to the river management in China. Until 2007, six experiments have been fulfilled to evaluate the effect of the project on the natural environment.

The exploration and development of stratigraphically trapped hydrocarbons requires detailed knowledge of the morphologies and reservoir characteristics of the stratigraphic body. Fluvial distributary channels are important exploration targets because they are typically isolated reservoirs, laterally and vertically sealed by delta plain and abandoned ...

The importance of erosion in distributary channel network growth, Wax Lake Delta, Louisiana, USA
Geology, 2013A river delta’s shape and kinematics are dictated by the three-dimensional evolution of its distributary channels on the delta front, yet measurements of this evolution are scarce. We supply four bathymetric surveys documenting this evolution for Gadwall Pass—part of the Wax Lake Delta, one of the few rapidly prograding regions of the greater ...
