We design a 1053 nm Yb3+-doped random fiber laser (YRFL) based on the combination of Yb3+ -doped fiber (YDF) and single mode fiber (SMF), in which the YDF provides active gain, while SMF offers random distributed feedback.

A distributed feedback silicon evanescent laser
We report an electrically pumped distributed feedback silicon evanescent laser. The laser operates continuous wave with a single mode output at 1600 nm. The laser threshold is 25 mA with a maximum output power of 5.4 mW at 10 degrees C. The maximum operating temperature and minimum line width of the laser are 50 degrees C, and 3.6 MHz, respectively.

Single-mode biological distributed feedback laser
Single-mode second order distributed feedback (DFB) lasers of riboflavin (vitamin B2) doped gelatine films on nanostructured low refractive index material are demonstrated. Manufacturing is based on a simple UV nanoimprint and spin-coating. Emission wavelengths of 543 nm and 562 nm for two different grating periods are reported.

Distributed delays stabilize neural feedback systems
We consider the effect of distributed delays in neural feedback systems. The avian optic tectum is reciprocally connected with the nucleus isthmi. Extracellular stimulation combined with intracellular recordings reveal a range of signal delays from 4 to 9 ms between isthmotectal elements.
