A Distributed Source Coding Framework for Bandwidth-Efficient Neural Network Parameter Updates

open access: yesIEEE Access
Neural networks have helped solve numerous problems and create applications in various fields in the past few years. In order for the neural networks to perform well, the number of parameters has had to grow considerably in size.

AN AUTOMATED BOTTOM UP HYDROLOGIC CODING SYSTEM FOR DENDRITIC RIVER SYSTEM [PDF]

open access: yesThe International Archives of the Photogrammetry, Remote Sensing and Spatial Information Sciences, 2019
The hydrologic coding of a dendritic river system can be used to indicate the stream order and spatial-structure features of a river system. However, most conventional hydrologic coding systems use a top down (i.e., from the source to the estuary ...

Infrared laser sampling of low volumes combined with shotgun lipidomics reveals lipid markers in palatine tonsil carcinoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Nanosecond infrared laser (NIRL) low‐volume sampling combined with shotgun lipidomics uncovers distinct lipidome alterations in oropharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma (OPSCC) of the palatine tonsil. Several lipid species consistently differentiate tumor from healthy tissue, highlighting their potential as diagnostic markers.

Asymptotic Rate-Distortion Analysis of Symmetric Remote Gaussian Source Coding: Centralized Encoding vs. Distributed Encoding

open access: yesEntropy, 2019
Consider a symmetric multivariate Gaussian source with ℓ components, which are corrupted by independent and identically distributed Gaussian noises; these noisy components are compressed at a certain rate, and the compressed version is leveraged to ...

Circular RNA expression landscapes in myelodysplastic neoplasms: Associations with mutational signatures and disease progression

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
In this explorative study, the abundance of circular RNA molecules in bone marrow stem cells was found to be elevated in patients with high‐risk myelodysplastic neoplasms, and to be associated with an increased risk of progression to acute myeloid leukemia.

Low Computational Coding-Efficient Distributed Video Coding: Adding a Decision Mode to Limit Channel Coding Load

open access: yesEntropy, 2023
Distributed video coding (DVC) is based on distributed source coding (DSC) concepts in which video statistics are used partially or completely at the decoder rather than the encoder.

An Enhanced Covering Lemma for Multiterminal Source Coding

open access: yes, 2006
An enhanced covering lemma for a Markov chain is proved in this paper, and then the distributed source coding problem of correlated general sources with one average distortion criterion under fixed-length coding is investigated.

Subtype‐specific enhancer RNAs define transcriptional regulators and prognosis in breast cancers

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study employed machine learning methodologies to perform the subtype‐specific classification of RNA‐seq data sets, which are mapped on enhancers from TCGA‐derived breast cancer patients. Their integration with gene expression (referred to as ProxCReAM eRNAs) and chromatin accessibility profiles has the potential to identify lineage‐specific and ...

Genetic attenuation of ALDH1A1 increases metastatic potential and aggressiveness in colorectal cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Aldehyde dehydrogenase 1A1 (ALDH1A1) is a cancer stem cell marker in several malignancies. We established a novel epithelial cell line from rectal adenocarcinoma with unique overexpression of this enzyme. Genetic attenuation of ALDH1A1 led to increased invasive capacity and metastatic potential, the inhibition of proliferation activity, and ultimately ...
