Interruption strategy of fault current fed by high-capacity generator based on phase selection and current-zero prediction

open access: yesInternational Journal of Electrical Power & Energy Systems
The high asymmetrical degree (AD, >100 %) of the fault current fed by high-capacity turbine generator (HTG) results in high arc energy (Earc), hindering reliable interruptions of generator circuit breakers (GCBs). Traditional GCBs with simultaneous three-

Structural biology of ferritin nanocages

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ferritin is a conserved iron‐storage protein that sequesters iron as a ferric mineral core within a nanocage, protecting cells from oxidative damage and maintaining iron homeostasis. This review discusses ferritin biology, structure, and function, and highlights recent cryo‐EM studies revealing mechanisms of ferritinophagy, cellular iron uptake, and ...

Frequency regulation market participation of distributed energy storage systems

open access: yesInternational Journal of Electrical Power & Energy Systems
To promote the effective participation of distributed energy storage systems (DESSs) in the frequency regulation (FR) market, a complete framework for distributed energy storage aggregation service providers (DSAPs) to fully incentivize the DESSs to ...

Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

Flexibility potential of electric vehicle charging: A trip chain analysis under bi-criterion stochastic dynamic user equilibrium

open access: yesAdvances in Applied Energy
The widespread adoption of electric vehicles (EVs) creates opportunities to use EV charging load as a flexible resource to improve grid operation. In urban areas, EV users typically follow trip chains in their daily travel, offering temporal and spatial ...

The planar cell polarity protein Vangl2 interacts with the PDZ‐domains of Scribble but not with a unique PDZ‐like domain in Inturned

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Structural and biochemical characterisations show that the planar cell polarity (PCP) protein Inturned harbours a unique PDZ‐like domain that does not bind canonical PDZ‐binding motifs (PBMs) like that of another PCP protein Vangl2. In contrast, the apical‐basal polarity protein Scribble contains four PDZ domains that bind Vangl2, but one PDZ domain ...

Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.

A methionine‐lined active site governs carbocation stabilization and product specificity in a bacterial terpene synthase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals a unique active site enriched in methionine residues and demonstrates that these residues play a critical role by stabilizing carbocation intermediates through novel sulfur–cation interactions. Structure‐guided mutagenesis further revealed variants with significantly altered product profiles, enhancing pseudopterosin formation. These
