Alternative Energy Source Integration in Medium-Capacity Gas Boiler Plant in Latvian Climate Conditions: Case Study for 6.38 MW Plant Servicing a Residential District

open access: yesEnergies
One of the main goals of heat and electricity producers in Latvia is to reduce the use of fossil fuels and introduce alternative fuel types that could help in reducing carbon dioxide emissions.

Estimating the cost of heat generation and consumption in district heating systems

open access: yes, 2021
The pricing of thermal energy is an important component of the efficient operation of the heat supply system. The article deals with the calculation of the cost of heat for consumers and producers of heat as based on the optimization problem of operation

An unexpected alternative viologen electron mediator site in tungsten‐containing formate dehydrogenase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
An unexpected alternative interaction site for ethyl viologen was identified in formate dehydrogenase 1 from Methylorubrum extorquens. Combined mutagenesis, kinetic analysis, and docking revealed that aromatic residues near an iron–sulfur cluster enable flavin mononucleotide‐independent electron transfer, offering a framework for engineering improved ...

Heterozygous loss‐of‐function alleles associate the conserved 3′‐5′ exoribonuclease EXOSC10 with hypersensitivity to the anticancer drug 5‐fluorouracil

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
EXOSC10, an essential nuclear RNA exosome‐associated 3′‐5′ exoribonuclease, is inhibited by the anticancer drug 5‐fluorouracil (5‐FU), and EXOSC10 depletion increases 5‐FU sensitivity. The colon‐cancer variant EXOSC10S402T, located in a proteolysis motif, is stable and nuclear but nonfunctional in vivo.

Proteasome inhibitor, ixazomib prevents topoisomerase‐I degradation and reverses irinotecan resistance in colorectal cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Ixazomib inhibits proteasome‐mediated degradation of topoisomerase I induced by irinotecan, thereby restoring drug sensitivity and promoting tumor cell death in colorectal cancer. Irinotecan, a topoisomerase I (topoI) inhibitor, is widely used for colorectal cancer, but resistance remains a major clinical challenge.

Oncogenic DMTF1β promotes cancer cell motility by regulating autophagy through ULK1 stabilization

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
In the current study, we demonstrate that the oncogene DMTF1β regulates ULK1 stability by reducing its proteasomal degradation in cancer cells. This stabilization enables ULK1 to induce autophagy, which in turn facilitates cancer cell migration. Consequently, reduced DMTF1β levels lead to decreased autophagy and impaired cancer cell migration.

A light‐triggered Time‐Resolved X‐ray Solution Scattering (TR‐XSS) workflow with application to protein conformational dynamics

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Time‐resolved X‐ray solution scattering captures how proteins change shape in real time under near‐native conditions. This article presents a practical workflow for light‐triggered TR‐XSS experiments, from data collection to structural refinement. Using a calcium‐transporting membrane protein as an example, the approach can be broadly applied to study ...

Early estimation of the wheat crop yield in irrigation district 038, Río Mayo, Sonora, México / Estimación temprana del rendimiento de la cosecha de trigo en el distrito de riego 038, Río Mayo, Sonora, México

open access: yesTecnología y ciencias del agua, 2019
In Irrigation District No. 38, Río Mayo, in the state of Sonora, México, wheat cultivation represents around 70 % of the area under irrigation (around 68,000 ha), so several studies have been performed with the aim of relating the crop yields with values

A network-aware market mechanism for decentralized district heating systems

open access: yes, 2022
District heating systems become more distributed with the integration of prosumers, including excess heat producers and active consumers. This calls for suitable heat market mechanisms that optimally integrate these actors, while minimizing and ...
