Analyzing the Characteristics of Plants Choosing to Opt-Out of the Large Combustion Plant Directive [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
The EU Large Combustion Plant Directive (LCPD) is a major but largely unstudied environmental regulation. Most of the 1585 large combustion plants in this analysis are electricity supply plants or combined heat and power plants. We find that, controlling

Protein pyrophosphorylation by inositol pyrophosphates — detection, function, and regulation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Protein pyrophosphorylation is an unusual signaling mechanism that was discovered two decades ago. It can be driven by inositol pyrophosphate messengers and influences various cellular processes. Herein, we summarize the research progress and challenges of this field, covering pathways found to be regulated by this posttranslational modification as ...

District Heating as a Secure Heat Supply—A Question of Regulation

open access: yesEnergy & Environment, 2007
The trend in the district heating industry is toward increased privatization and openness to competition, which bring with them other phenomena associated with civil law, such as bankruptcies. Vingåker was one of six Swedish municipalities whose district heating companies went bankrupt in 2004.

Making GATT Dolphin-Safe: Trade and the Environment [PDF]

open access: yes, 1992
The Swedish municipalities have traditionally, as suppliers of gas, electricity and district heating to end-use consumers, been one of the key actors of national energy politics.

The ubiquitin ligase RNF115 is required for the clearance of damaged lysosomes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Upon lysosomal rupture, an E3 ubiquitin ligase RNF115 translocates from the cytosol to the damaged lysosomal membrane. Moreover, RNF115 depletion impairs the clearance of damaged lysosomes, identifying it as a key regulator of lysosomal quality control.

Optimal frequency of temperature change of a heat transfer agent on a heat source and the influence of the rate of change thereof on heat energy loss

open access: yesИзвестия высших учебных заведений: Проблемы энергетики, 2023
THE PURPOSE. In modern realities, the operation of heat networks of the district heating system involves a constant search for ways to minimize heat energy losses. METHODS.

Dynamic models for a heat-led organic rankine cycle [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Drawn by the benefits of de-centralised and renewable power supply, over 150 Organic Rankine Cycles (ORC), in a range from 400kWel to 2MWel, have been installed in Central Europe. The majority of modules are biomass fired and heat-led by district heating

Infrared laser sampling of low volumes combined with shotgun lipidomics reveals lipid markers in palatine tonsil carcinoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Nanosecond infrared laser (NIRL) low‐volume sampling combined with shotgun lipidomics uncovers distinct lipidome alterations in oropharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma (OPSCC) of the palatine tonsil. Several lipid species consistently differentiate tumor from healthy tissue, highlighting their potential as diagnostic markers.

District heating supply via large-scale heat pumps using wastewater treatment plant effluent and electrolysis waste heat: A techno-economic analysis of potential synergies

open access: yesEnergy Conversion and Management: X
Space heating and domestic hot water account for roughly one third of final energy consumption in Europe, with largely fossil-based district heating supply providing around 11.7% of buildings-related heat demand.
